no screw caps either
Actually, the cheap brand of soda is sold for exactly 35 cents here in Canada....right beside the standard Coke and Pepsi machines...
"Served in Cans," oh the modern amenities!
Thirty-five cents for a can of Pepsi, I would estimate the year about 1978. I was just a kid, but I remember the price going up fro thirty to thirty-five cents about then. Of course, it could be much earlier. Stand-alone vending machines with no "competition" sometimes allow companies to jack the price up.
Chris, some supermarkets/dept. stores here in the U.S. vend their housebrands super-cheap on the premises.
I can get a can of Pepsi at work for 25 cents, but a bottle of Aquafina is a buck. Go figure.

I wonder if that machine still works?
Even if it did work, that soda would be flatter then flat think about it...
Motts, what were the various selections?
Pepsi, Mountian Dew, and a generic Ginger Ale.
gee, kinda makes me wish i went back in time
hey were is this pepsi machine located in the powerhouse??
That baby really should be in a museum. Talk about time-warp.
It might've been in the building right next to the power plant.
Pepsi co. bought Mt. Dew in 1965, so from sometime after that.
i have been in and out of these buildings for a long time . And i still ride my dirt bike on the land . A word to the wise , If you think you can just go in look around , come out and get a pepsi , YOUR DEAD WRONG ! This place is very very very unsafe to be in . Open walls to no floors on the other side ,glass , sharp metal, and the bird poop is very toxic when dusty. The tunnels that go to each building under ground are easy to get lost in . And one last thing , the state has been instaling motion detectors and cameras in some parts of the buildings but not all of them . You might say im full of it .Theres no power wright ? That part is true [the power that is ] Things to day are wireless that can transmit up to a half mile , and the batteries in these things can last a year or so . If they catch you in there you are effed . No PBA card is going to work here . I`ve had a few run ins with the P.D. and the the only things that saved me was my background [line of work] and the grace of god . If you go in , two or people is a must , flash lights and lots of batteries , gloves , and dont put your hands in you mouth [ wash them well ] its all lead paint , and its everyware , lots of luck , Oisin Kelleher #512
SOUNDS PERFECT.
I hate soda pop!!

As a young boy I always hated it..it was difficult for me to eat at a resturaunt due to this, I guess me being German mean's I have strong love for Lemonade..it was always my fave, Lemonade is a very German thing!

Soda is a true ''evil'' and is one of the worst thing's for the human body!
Maybe I'm old, but it wasn't that long ago that I remember seeing those machines, and I'm 29, not 59. In rural areas, we held on to those machines longer - I guess because some individuals could swindle them away from the distributors (who supply the machine, but you buy the soda at their price - presumably more than it would cost to get it at the grocery store). I remember seeing machines like this at local low-budget golf courses, etc. until the early 90s, and you can tell they got away from the distributors, just by the fact that there will be a pepsi machine with nothing but coke in it.

As far as getting anything out of it, it looks like the door is open, and it's probably been emptied.
what a waste of pop
ridiculous. i got a can for $1.25 few days ago...
hmm looks like the early 80's even though i was born in 89' lol..but hmm wish i had some "change" wink wink (for those of you who didnt get it i was joking because today they usually cost a dollor)
If you had a thin arm and wrist, you could reach up the shute fairly easy and maneuver one can at a time out. Bottles were much trickier. Nowadays, you need a bomb.
I'm gonna put a mid 70's dating on this machine, 'cause of the 35 cent price and the 'served in cans' inscription. 60's machines were 25 cents (or less) and dispenced you a bottle. 80's machines were 50 cents and more colorful.
you must move in stealth and use the shadows to your advantage when moving around this place...........silence is key
i would take that home and makes sure it works and put pop in it.
There's one just like that at my local community center. More expensive pop, though.
I should go here and just take this machine. It would look very good in my basement.
35 cents ! ? ! ? !

No way !

Alright ! !

LoL I just wonder why everybody's calling it pop. But can you seriousley fall through the floor in there? I wonder why they havent made a movie out of this yet.
i went to pilgrim state yesterday we went in some of the buildings me and my people the legend behind that soda machine is that it is on during halloween! but there is no electricity running to these buildings anymore
You know the right guy i bet you could make a killing off that thing awsome
in feb 2008 soda machine was still near the ouyside of the powerhouse
its still there..i was in there with my friend back in may..and i thought it was a person and i punched it
The ambulance company I work for has a vending machine in the ambulance bay where you can get a can of soda for 35 cents. Its a perk of the job, I guess, Because I'm pretty sure they pay more for the soda then 35 cents.
Some companies subsidize the cost of the various sodas and other drinks offered on their premises for their employees -- such as MedicSpanker mentioned. I don't think that any true timeframe for the machine can really be established based on the price of soda on the machine. The machines themselves were designed to be adjustable as to the coin mechanism, allowing price increases over the years, of course.

I would hazard a guess the machine is from the later '60s or early '70s.
How could that machine still be there in 2008? Demoliton of different buildings was done by then right? That is quite a collectible if someone were able to get it off the property.
Ah nevermind part of my last comment. I was thinking this was a pic from Danvers State. My bad.
i wonder if there is still money in it
That's a piece of history someone really oughtta save.
i want this too
Oh how awesome! I'd love to have a machine like that
