Abatement

Abatement

Recent asbestos abatement has left much of the buildings in bad shape visually, although the structural integrity seems to be soild. Most of the hundreds of ward rooms have passageways such as this cut into the walls; the time and money taken to do this must have been extraordinary.

Great Shot!
now that is more along the lines of what i call creapy
I remember working in here...Looks almost the same.
NICE!
i wana know though because iam going really soon if the asbestos remains in the building or if it is safe to go in there..n not get some kind of disease...
I don't understand why they would need to do that? mabye to get at the inside part of the walls?
they knock out the walls for asbestos removal ack
Most of the buildings that are left standing have been cleared of asbestos but they are not safe to enter. I do not recommend anyone trying to enter. Our security patrols the areas and will escort trespassers off the grounds. They are also authorized to call Suffolk County Police.
Hi Lynne,
I'm sorry about all the questions but I'm hooked on this stuff.

Is it true that at one time one of the methods used to cure mental problems was to "scare" the sickness out of people?

If so, when was this method stopped and how did they scare the person? Like did they shout "BOO" at them or show them scary drawings--how?
Yes ma'am, that is correct. It's been a while - I'll try to find an approximate date for you. I would guess the late 1700s to the early 1800s were when this sort of treatment took place. One method was to put people in a basket and pull it up to the ceiling and then let it drop. That would work for ME, all right. Another was to have someone walk across a stage and a trap door would open and they would fall into a vat of cold water. That would ALSO work for me and it would be a convenient thing there was water there because I truly believe I would have wet my pantaloons by the time I reached the water and I would need to "freshen" my clothes.

Thanks Lynne! I couldn't believe stuff like that was done but that's whay they thought a cure was.
Hey, by reading over that link you sent me I'm thinkng up numerous ways I could torment the neighborhood guido, Joey. Ah tis a sweet sweet fantasy. :-D
Hi Janice,
I couldn't join the forum because I was doing something with the idenitifacation number wrong. I'll talk to Motts about it when he comes back from Europe.

Anyway I couldn't post a comment but I read yours about the old mansion. Spooky stuff!

I never really believed in ghost but I do suppose that out of all supernatual forces they are the most likely--I mean who knows what the human soul is capable of?

Awhile back I became fascinaited by ghost photos and started looking them up. I saw nothing which really got to me until I saw this:

Go down to the third picture from 1918, where they are doing construction work, and read the directions. Can you see the little girl?
Yeah, I saw what was a light of some sort. Kinda strange. Saw this before.

Every time someone asks you a technical question, you always take the time to get them proof. I think its great that you care, so we all understand things better .Now I have a request, you talk a lot about your pantaloons I would like some correct info on them, and if possible could you post a couple of pictures of yourself wearing them? I would prefer PINK if its possible. We gotta love your expressions. Do you know what an "ice box"is? Please answer swiftly. I wont sleep a wink till I hear from you.. Love ya kid...

If they spend their time and money to take all the asbestos out of buildings, why don't they rennovate them?
Sorry, guys, but in the 1918 picture all I see is what was probably a bit of fluff and/or dust on the lens during development...

I've worked in a darkroom, and have also spent hours and hours taking out things like this from wedding pictures as a profession. Take my word for it. Dust.
I like the wall pattern
i was looking at pictures of abandon buildings and almost every1 of them were spirit photos.. look closely.. sometimes u cn see the ghosts fae other times its just a blurr
I wanna plan an explorations but Im not sure to my dude told me there's asbestos disease thingy

Wow, Lynne, all that "scare tactic" stuff would only worsen my anxiety attacks. ;)
-and if anyone doesn't know what an icebox is, it's original meaning is literal (for kitchen use, or even putting ice blocks and fans in an attic before modern A/C) now people might call a freezer an icebox.
This photo would make great wallpaper. Wonderful, Motts.
