Asbestos Suit Tunnel

Asbestos Suit Tunnel

This was placed by the film crew of Session 9 for more of a horror feel. Members of the cast and crew, including Brad Anderson, signed the wall directly behind the tunnel entrance.

Hah, I just noticed the glove giving the middle finger when making this a wallpaper... those crazy New England explorers!

I've seen pictures of those suits before, they are rather creepy looking hanging there like that, but then again so is that silhoutte of that person standing there. Lovely.
Live near the place. these are the first photos i have seen that start to give the real feeling that one has on that property
funny how despite the extreme damage and vandalisim that this is still hanging. Danvers is a cool spot.
I can't remember the last time a photo made the hair on the back of my neck stand up like that.
I remember that scene in the movie
me and my boy jon are goi9ng to go check it out. we have developed a sudden obsession with rollin face and peepin out danvers i.a. any remerks hit us up at TOMMYCMAIL@hotmail.com curiousity is a virtue in this case. hit us up
<<<<<<<HOLY SHIT>>>>>>>>> what is that
Might be props left over from session 9.

Now I'm going to have nightmares every time I go down a hallway and think that the lights are gonna go out :(.
i have been there on many ocassions and love it ,i'm drawn to the beautyand the mystic
Where is the light coming from and did you know that thing was down there when you took the photo?
I work for the firm that is contracted to perform the demolition of the site. The photo above is of glove bags. Its a bag with 2 sleeves and gloves attached used as a method of asbestos abatement.
Great photo... "Do It Gordon!"
And don't those gloves look like desperately reaching hands.
do you see a figure of a man walking away all in black ?? what is that ?? god this place is amazing ...
Wow....just....Wow
Wow, Thats a great shot, I watched Session 9 forever and a day ago, I diddn't know it was filmed here. In fact, when i saw this shot i thought, "Hey, this looks like the tunnel from Session 9", go figure right?
Great pic(s) man!
Great pictures! Session Nine rules.
in the pic it looks like there is a guy, like a shadow
it truley sucks they sold the place for only 12 million and that they sold it in the first place it really is a beautiful building and should remain as the huanter of the dark for danvers
YAY!! ASBESTOS!!!
All of these photos are beautiful and skin-crawlingly spooky at the same time, but this pic especially got my attention. It gave me chills when I saw it. Excellent perspective, the color is extraordinary. The gloves on these suits look like they're lost souls reaching outward.
Been ther and it's a fucked up vibe, Like 3 times been there and never got cought , looking to go again , all I have to say is the place is alive !!!!! No joke there is somthing very bad and evil there . So after u go please go home a say like 3 Hail Mary's Amen!!!!
I find a nice soothing sitz bath makes it better slim... So much more relaxing than Hail Marys!
going to rent movie just "dying" to see it!!!
My husband and I saw Session 9, and I thought someone was inside one of those suits just waitng to grab the one guy who was running down the tunnel before the lights went out!!! Creepy, awesome, Mr. Motts you rule!
Tearing it down for condos what a shame to lose so much history.
good night and good luck
farewell the H, I, and J wards are downa along w/ medical bldg chapel(s) laundry ect for more demolition info and pics got o danversstateia.com
That's an awesome capture of a shadow ghost!!!
i think there may be moon men inside! yikes!!
danvers is nuttsssss! but they're tearing it down, so u gotta check it out asap
the dude in the hallway looks like the fuckin devil
jumpin jebus!! i nearly fell off me chair!!
some off these pics are too scary, they seem to penetrate the brain, disappear and then pop up again when you turn out the lights to go peepy bye bye's. I don't think i'll ever sleep again.
I have looked at this picture dozens of times, and just noticed the finger -- hahahahahaha --

p.s. surly girl -- you live in the uk? email me at janice143@verizon.net -- I have a quick question
Wow, screws with the mind much?
This picture gives me chills for some reason!

Great job!
I like how one of the gloves is giving off the bird. We New Englanders are crazy sometimes! But this picture did scare the crap outta me when I saw it!
Wow, I never even noticed the shadow person until after readin the comments. Great shot!!! It looks like the employees are going to return any second and pick up where they left off.
Wonder if the cast for Session 9 got the creeps being down there ? :)
Ok I've never seen Session 9 (although I now plan to) but just walking through this corridor and having all those arms reaching out would freak the hell outta me. And I like going into creepy or abandoned places! It's just looks kinda surreal and alien-like.
very very VERY scary photo....i would hate to half to walk down there alone.....
If you watch the scene in the movie where they show the suits from this angle you can actually see the middle finger showing. So it must have been done by someone in the movie crew as a joke.
Yea Ryan I didnt see the movie until after I saw the gallery. The middle fingered glove was in the movie as well.
"What are you doing here?" Reminds me alot of the Richardson Kirkbride in Buffalo, NY
Session 9 is the best movie ever!!!
Ive been there a couple times myself. Brought a videocamera once. The tunnels are definitely the coolest thing about Danver State. For me, to get in the hospital, you first have to find an abandoned house on the property, go through the window (which has a mattress on the other side incase you fall) go down to the basement (step on a dead cat , no joke), the tunnels are connected from this house to the main hospital. Awesome stuff. And there are more than one tunnel. There are connecting tunnels off the main one.
that shit is fucking scary!!!
So, is that a shadow ghost, or part of the movie or a trick of the lighting???
It's an outline of myself lighting the tunnel with my flashlight.
If you look closly enough in the film, the finger was set like that before filming =]
I love this place, I went there with some friends about 2 weeks ago, i was so pissed it's complteley torn down. PLEASE IF ANYONE KNOWS HOW TO GET TO THE TUNNELLS, OR WHETHER OR NOT THEY STILL EXIST, PLEASE WRITE BACK TO ME.
Thanks Mr Motts for clarifying that. I got all excited for a moment... The lighting is magic. I have just seen the DVD here in Australia (Session 9), a friend bought it for me for Xmas because I rave about your photography. She got sick of me saying all thru the movie "but Mott's lighting is sooooo much more atmospheric!! " Anyway, suffice to say the psych nurses here in Australia love your work. Bless.
According to several good sources ie: actual contractors involved in demolition and a security guard of my acquaintance, the tunnels are back filled 15 feet on the ends. That tunnel I believe is the tunnel twixt Bonner and Kirkbride buildings. If the slant in the tunnel is any indication. The asbestos suits are covering the pipes that run along one side of the tunnels. We used to have captains chairs with wheels. We used to go over to the Kirkbride building with junk on the chairs. Then we'd ride the chairs back to the Bonner building. occasionally we'd have timed races. The tunnels were well lit back in the day
And Where does Simon live??????

Simon lives in the weak and the wounded, Doc.
not to be picky but the phrase is, and where do you live ? i live in the weak and the wounded. creepy any way !
Yes, I put Simon in there. He was the personality being addressed. That is a great movie. Funny thing is. I had watched it before I found this site and noticed the screened in stairs on the Northampton album, then was reading here in the Danvers Album and found this to be the movie setting. I bought the movie and watched it a few more times. Danvers reaches out over the net and gets ya. Very strange how that happens, strong, very strong draw. A testament to Motts' great photography talent. :)
Dude, is that shadowy figure part of the "horror" feel, or is that not something that was done on purpose? >;)
I say "Run Dude Run!" (words taken from Brian Harnois of Ghost Hunters fame) ;-)
Brain Harnois is the coolest person on the planet. Ghost Hunters rock the earth.
Session 9 is how I found this website. The hospital was as much, if not more of, a character as the actors in the movie. It really felt like the building was alive. After doing a search for Danvers, I found this website. Brilliant work - I keep coming back and looking at all of the galleries now. I can't seem to help myself. :-)
I loved Danvers but they demolished stupid ediots.
That glove giving the finger is great.
Thats some nice work! I LOL'd at the glove with the middle finger!
Live 20min away from DSH. Security was brutal up there before demo. We were turned away many times. It was amazing up there. Its horrible what they are doing to the hospital. Many Pysch. Hospitals are being demolished. Wonder why??
I Have just seen the movie session 9 and reconised it from this picture! Some times a photo stays with you, and this one did. I love your work! Iconic and hunting.
Gives me goosebumps. R.L. Stein wouldn't touch this with a ten foot pole.
For the Record, NOTHING was "demolished" for the condos. ALL property was saved and converted.

Only one original cupola (steeple) was lost to the fire and the "three condos" that burnt down was an add on and made from scratch as in NOT part of the original arcitecture.

Now all the ghosts of that place has free internet, sweet!
its looks like a tunnel to hell i swear if one of those hands toched me id probably jump
Those aren't suits, its called a glove bag. Its for cleaning the asbestos off the pipes.. we put a bid in for cleaning this place.. and only the main builing was left. We cleaned all the mold that was growing in the condos
That black body outline with the shadow on the ground is creeping me out !
Too bad they had to tear this place down. I'm sure it would have been fun to go exploring around there.
again, does anyone know if the tunnels were actually filled in or not?

weren't there tunnels that ran to the power station and the hogan?
wake up simon!
Was David Caruso's signature there??
it may just be my eyes messing with me but it looks like there is an outline of a figure in the darkest parts of the picture... just wondering if there is something there
