beautiful work, much more artistic than other pieces I have seen on this hospital, scheduled to be torn down this september
Great shot! The Doors are fantastic! I love the dark colored wood .
Dayum! I wish I could see this place before it gets torn down!
ALL I CAN SAY IT FREDDY......

Interesting thought. There really was an exit, but no one could leave.

just like visiting the titanic..
Do you go to these places alone? My god that is one hell of a picture. It's like Munsters meet Qeen of the damned.
Mr Motts. I thaught my heart would leap from my chest when I say this picture. I wonder if copies of thease pictures are for sale? Please tell me they are. wickedwiccan77@yahoo.com
This almost made me cry. It is the most emotion filled photo I have ever seen. I remember that door..too well... I would love to know two things. Please e mail me. Swatts55@aol.com
It looks ANTIQUE!
this is so cool
Imagine all the people who went from this door into their nightmares
the emergence from the dark is just stunning...i seemed to, for a second, see the doors in their original beauty before realizing the room's actual state.
It looks like there are loads of faces at the door

All like staring and wanted to come and get you or something... ewww
OMG, I opened this pic up at work with a full bustling office and lights on and it scared the crap out of me.

It's a great pic Motts..yet haunting..

It's beautiful how the pains of glass are all cracked. And how the darkness creeps into the hallway from behind your view.

I would love to walk around in a place like this. It is truly ashame it is being torn down instead of preserving the building.

Such bittersweet beauty...
You can almost see the grandure of the original layout . Welcome...there is no exit.
P.S. I like the Titanic Comment :)
they are destroying this?? INSANE!!!
are there moderator doors?

P.S I'm a fan of the famous white star liner RMS titanic
Beautiful but haunting picture...
that is a very interestin gpicture....really intrigueing but very frightning also...BRAVO!<333
these pictures are ment to scare u they are not ment to make u happy
Nice.

The tattered curtains used to constantly blow in those short corridors because of the wind tunnel effect created on each side in the space between admin and the rest of the building. It was really unsettling. I think there is a scene in Session 9 that shows this.
Mr. Motts, my name is margaret, and i weas a patient at danvers for twenty years. 1965 - 1985. i was told about this site from my grandson. i just wanted to say that every-one leaving comments says how awful it is that this building should be kept up and remain for ever, but if you knew the things that happened to patients, inculding myself, you wouldhate yourself for ever wishing it. i wanted to tell you a story that happened in this very hall. in 1976 we had a new patient admitted, her name was chloe, and she was very nice. i made friends with her and she had an illness similar to parkinsons. the doctors had decided to give her shock therapy treatment and she wasn't going to have it. one day she was taken into the administration building, and on her way back they told her they were taking her to recieve shock therapy treatment. she put up a struggle, and they beat her, the orderly removed his shoe and beat her on top of the head and in her face. they then took her and gave her shock treatment, and she died. i hate that place, and i never want to see it again. i am currently living in new-york city, and i never will go back there again. i just wanted to tell you my, rather, chloe's story.
thank you,
margaret kinsey
Margaret,

Thank you for sharing your expereince. You honesty is greatly appreciated.

Take care,
la reina
LaReins,
You are very welcome, i juts wanted the younger people to understand what happened in this place. It does have beautiful architecture, but the secrets and horrors that have happened in this place are nightmarish.
I am glad i was able to share my knowledge of the Danvers past with you! I am 76 years old now, and all of it is behind me. Thank You once again.
Margaret Kinsey
NMargret or former patient, I think you are fibbing. That is the door to the administrative section of the hospital. It went to offices. ECT was no longer being performed in hospital in 1976. It was being done at Salem Hospital I believe. If you can tell me why they would take a patient to the administrative section of the hospital which led no where patient rellated, and was usually full of people coming and going, how anyone, could get away with beating a patient in a place where there were bound to be a lot of witnesses. I'd really like to hear it If you are going to tell a horror story, you don't have to make it up. Plenty went on there that you don't have to make up.
Big Ed,
In my old age, why would I feel the need to lie? I would like to know.. were you a patient there also? They were still doing ECT in 1976 I know, I was there, and I don't need for you to believe me. The "witnesses", of course they were there. They of course did nothing, this kind of thing happened all the time. Also, sometimes, if there was a particular nurse that had a patient to watch, they would bring them with them on daily business throughout the hospital, only if the patient wasn't dangerous, Chloe was not dangerous. This happened to be a rare occasion, but it did happen, I am not going to change what I said, and I stand by it fully. I know what went on, and I was full witness to all events.
They still do ECT now in asylums and hospitals as far as I know. It should read Welcome to your nightmare under those doors. I don't know if what Margeret says is true or not but I'm glad that I did'nt have to live through it myself to know. Many of the patients of these places are quite old now. If I would have checked into this info alot sooner I would have asked my mother what it was like where she was. Anyone else?
Here here.
But i know no one.
While Big Ed's diplomacy might require a little work, it is true that some of the stories appearing on this site appear to be written by folk who just crave attention. Descerning between emotive opinion and objective accuracy can be difficult, especially with the stunning images portrayed here stirring intense emotions, as they do. However, Margaret was thorough enough to provide her real name (we hope), along with a very plausible story. Activities within the confines of an institution are often difficult for the outside world to understand. Events that occur within plain sight seem appalling to those who are accustomed to basic human rights.

It is such a privilege to hear from someone who *might* have first-hand knowledge of these places, that we should encourage visitors like Margaret to contribute as much as they feel comfortable divulging. Perhaps someone might even substantiate their story with pictures or a scan of discharge papers.
so scary....
So far as I know, ECT is still performed as a part of some mental health regiments. However, it is done with a lot more discretion, and typically requires full consent of the patient or the patient's guardian. It is not just being strapped down and shocked. As to whether or not it was being performed at Danvers in 1976, I would not have any knowledge. But it is in use today in certain medical settings.
Apparently this place has been remodeled and turned into apartments and condos. They did a wonderful job and the residences are beautiful BUT I find something very uneasy about living in a place that once may or may not have been home to such horrors as patient mistreatment or death. Although I'm not afraid of the supernatural, I often wonder if any of these new residents have experienced anything "unusual" and if the new owners are having any difficulties renting based on what the property once was?
i would never be left alone in my room if i lived here
who in their right mind would want to live here lol no wonder it burnt down. If I was the uneasy spirit of a former patient and a bunch of Yuppies came in and trashed my room, I wouldnt be too pleased either.
