I have been possessed by God knows what ever since I found my first site about Abandoned Sanitoriums/Sanitariums 2 days ago. I have spent literally 36-38 of the last 48 hours stuck in front of my PC looking at every single link I have found re: such. I have to say that this pic is at the top of my list for THE BEST pictures that I have seen. The reds are gorgeous, and this place looks so serene, so peacefull, but what evil and terrible mysteries and how many tortured souls or tormented ghosts do you think actually dwell within these walls, masked inside them, by an eerie sort of peace that seems to be portrayed. Whats lurking there, waiting just behind those blood red bricks, behind the unnatural calmness that is only seen from tthe outside? I am hopelessy addicted to this stuff now!!!!!!!!! Can anyone tell me where the next sign up is for another expedition? I'll go with anyone whos willing to allow me the chance to tag along!!!!! E-mail me at torisgirl11@msn.com
You definitely have a point Shannon,I don't think any abandoned insane asylum exists that isn't haunted. So much pain and misery in those places.
Awsome picture Motts....
wow u really have awsome pics i am to obsessed with mental institutions like overly obsessed ya same here i would wanna go on an expedition to so halla imstupidjess@yahoo.com
This one has to be my most fave picture on the sight..Good job Motts
And the freakin' tree actually matches the freakin' buildings! These colors are abnormal as hell.
Beautifly shot. Brought back memories. Used to drive up and look around, with my boyfriend at the time-now my husband, especially to see the fall foliage. You can't beat the view.
I wanna go on an expidtion too!!!!

email me mibuhiro@prodigy.net
SSad that demolition starts in november... its to bad it cant be that ominous building on the hill forever..
Did anything happen with that preservation company? I really wish they wouldn't tear this place down. Are the grounds tours still running? That's something I still really wanna do.

I don't know what market they're aiming for. When I think of condos, I think usually of older couples moving to Florida to settle down, usually they're not bad off. Condos aren't exactly cheap, are they? Its not gonna attract the younger kids because first off, they can't afford it. Also, my experience has been condos aren't always the first choice for growing families, aren't many of them for a more relaxed lifestyle? Don't get me wrong - many young couples and growing families live in condos, I'm sure. It's not something I'm that familiar with. Anyways, though, I don't see this appealing to the "potential" buyers.

Anyways, don't take this the wrong way - I'm probably completely wrong, this has just been my experience with condos.
Sadly with every stupid shortsighted housing boom the list of beautiful buildings grows shorter... we are in the grip of a property speculation bubble in the UK which has led to 15,000 new apartments being constructed in my city in the last five years. Most of them are too small to live in comfortably, priced too high for the young city workers and professionals for whom they were intended, andmany beautiful buildings have been destroyed or disfigured in the process. Most of them are owned by investment companies who sell them on for crazy profit.

In ten years time I wonder if some of them will be demolished already and others, the subjects of urban exploration websites?
There are so many older abandoned buildings that ARE NOT, being used, ARE NOT very interesting, have absoloutly no educational value what-so-ever, and they just leave them to rot. I don't understand why they don't referbish those.
red but beautiful
I have worked in both Danvers and Met State in Waltham as a Tel Rep Tech when they were occupied. I had spent many hours in the basements and tunnels as part of my job. Believe me they are as creepy as you can only imagine. On more than 1 occassion we would find patients hiding in the dark areas in the tunnels. This happened on a regular basis. these places were spookey occupied, never mind empty. If you get the chance watch the movie Sessions 9 about an asbestos clean up crew working at Danvers Hospital.
I too have been to those tunnels. Takem by my mothers hand. I still hear the voices when I think about it.
I think this pic is sensational. My late-husband wanted to paint our home a dark green to blend in with the outside scenery. Of course I rather injoy a variety of colors. Maybe the people who painted the Danvers wanted it to blend in, or they painted the tree to blend in with Denvers. they gave the tree srawberry juice so it could transform from a green tree to a red one. This is so crazy...hehe
Look it all the red!
Half the comments are from people who have never been to the NorthEast and seen a Red Maple tree in the Fall. This color is a common sight.
great pic
this picture is gorgeous!
This pictures just incredible
how beautiful
The red in this picture is stunning
It doesnt look harmful at all. This scene makes me think of a boarding school actually.
There's pain and misery everywhere; not just asylums.
God, I just learned about Danvers Insane Asylum, and they've already torn it down. Its a shame too, because I live in Massachusetts. Great pictures though, I wish they never tore it down so I could tour it.
I love the way the New England fall colors play off the red of the building, and how it looks like there almost isn't a sky at all.
beautiful, i love the leaves on the ground and how they match the building.
I am in love with this photo. Its breathtaking. Motts your the best.
wow it is nice but then you think about the people in side and what they went though in the mental place
that is not how i would describe it
Motts~ I have to say that this one, in my opinion, is one of the most beautiful ones that you've ever done.
The many different shades of red in it and the contrast that they are to each other is just beautiful.
The little shock of white snow at the bottom makes it all the more striking, and brings out the colors even more.
MOTTS THIS IS BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!! I wish a had a ounce of your talent!!!!!!!!!
WOW! How did I miss this shot? This is really beautiful, Definatley an all time best!
Buautiful. the various shades of red are all goregous together
oh my god i love looking at abandonded sanitoriums/santariums even though im only 13 but i think they're interesting
absolutely, positively the BEST.
Yea, it is an awesome pic, but I would love to go on an expedition to some of the haunted sites!!!
beautiful
It looks kind of......peaceful, for some reason.
if you look in the corner where the set of stairs, about 3 stairs, about 100ft to the left. that is where I seen the figure in dirty white DRs coat. this happened over 25yrs ago and I can remember it like yesturday.cool place!!
forgot to tell you that it was a bulkhead that was closing when I seen this.
really had my heart racing. I had been there at least a dozen times and nothing. now I believe in spirits. Its great.
I keep coming back to this picture! I love this shot!
well lets take a party bus. i soo need to be on an expidtion. e-mail me at alyssssaduh@aim.com
Did that tree go down with the grace of the hospital?
My favorite place in my favorite season...beautiful
I took a walk here last Sunday; tried to picture how everything was back in the "good old days". Thank God they at least left the admin part of this magnificent structure. I also walked down the covered staircase and woodland path that goes down the hill of the property-it was a beautiful autumn day.
I don't know if anyone has made this observation, but t's almost as if there is blood flowing from the building... What horrors lie within, we will never know.
