Wow, no wonder it looks so solid! Its beautiful!
great shot!
wow thats awsome one of ur best pics yet!
So, this graffiti was pre-lockdown. What possesses people to do this crap?
I agree, Twug. I think the answer is directly related to the horsepower between their ears: have you ever noticed that NOT ONE OF THEM can ever spell worth a damn???
I hope they are haunted the rest of their unnatual lives.
Just think of all the fumes and chemicals they inhale just 'marking their trail'. Is it any wonder they can't spell anything right?
Drives me absolutely crazy.
these people may have never had an education such as us, hint the spelling errors. also they are under-develop, they are just like children many times. or maybe these words are errors in our eyes yet in theirs it has a completely different meaning. these people see the world in such a way we can never even imagine... so i believe spelling errors are the least of their concerns. they didn't ask for such a life like this so why do you wish so much pain and suffering towards them?
remember the picture of the angels going up the stairway.... and how they seemed sad because it looked like they were walking to the devil, notice these angels are happy and passed the devil. why do some people think these people were possessed? a hospital like this doesn't mean these people were possessed. they are drawing what they feel and believe, and it seems they believe in a heaven and a hell... like many do.
ali, the things you see on the wall WEREN'T put there by former patients; they were put there by vandals who came after these places were closed.

Same with the folks who drew the angels and devil - those were also vandals.

Now, as to how educated people are who break into deserted buildings, trash the place, and spray paint the walls, I think their grammar speaks for itself. ;-)
No wonder other countries look at the USA and see a crumbling education system. I think it would be brilliant if all these "artists" should be arrested and their punishment should be decent schooling.
Even if this picture was done by vandals, they still make a good point threough the pictures. They are obviously expressing their beliefs. To me it looks like they we trying to say that they were tempted by the devil but made it past him and went on to live happy lives. So just maybe they were trying to say in their own way that Jesus really does save.
Oh and I LOVE YOU ALI!!!! YOU'RE MY ONE AND ONLY!!!!
At its prime IM sure it was beautiful stair well and bannister. Now it is slowly dieing.
As far as the vandals and the graffiti goes I have no respect for people who bust in to places and trash them just for something to do. What in the hell possess a person to do this? I don't know? What kind of enjoyment can be had from destroying a building like this? If you got this kind of energy to do this then get a job with a demolition company. IMHO if they catch someone painting a building or destroying it they should be made to fix it, repair it, and clean it up. And as far as cleaning the paint off the wall, they can use there tounge.
I wonder if they think they're so artistic, why don't they go to art school?
The key word there is "they think" , but not really.
I have seen some artistic grafitti. Beautifully drawn and in perfect proportions. These are few and far inbetween as most grafitti is nothing more than a waste of spray paint.
Who cares if they are spray painting on this run down mess anyway. People used to get labotomies here and somebody drawing on the walls in there having a good time concerns you. You people are lost. The place will be demolished anyway, it should be made into a legal place to paint, whatever you feel like.
When you have a car or house I hope some neighborhood kids say, "It should be legal to place paint on this worthless junk, they will either be wrecked or demolished anyways." It's the art of an abandond buiding that awes people. The fact that people have some respect for it and dont bring in cans of spraypaint deciding to do their own paintjobs. If you really must become an artist who uses a median of spraypaint, they do make canvas, posterboard, heck even paper for you to use, not buildings.
Sag, don't forget...crayons.
very clear
This looks like part 2 to the set of pics where everyone was trying to figure out what the devil is saying at the top of the stairs!
Thanks Melissa, now i am going to be staring at this all night trying to figure it out. ; )
Wow! FAT SALTY CAN'T REACH.
Well I think that's what it says.
beautiful, but what does that say on the wall? all i can read is reach.

wow. people have no respect for archetectual gems...shame.
Lynne is right on the mark. Look at this photo without the cheap graffitti on the wall. It gives the minds eye so much more to play with.
As a whole I would agree that graffiti cheapens and destroys, but a few of my favorite photos on the site involve graffiti. The angels stairway ascent to the devil, and the snoopy rock formation. Let's not forget that freaky ass, 4 eared bunny, which itself is a form of patient graffiti. However, physical destruction of walls and objects does ruin the natural idiom of decay and abandonment.
Wow, did thes idiots find any stained glass windows to smash?? Someone should paint their heads!!
This is a view in the actual Kirkbride Building, the most center building that Avalon Bay agreed not to tear down. The bat-wing buildings all had metal railings / staircases, but the Kirkbride is the only one made of wood. We used to run up these stairs all the time, because the elevator was always busy.
the graffiti in this picture is not done by artists, people expressing themselves, or even valdals. this graffiti is done by stupid drunk teenagers that dont even know how to hold a can. you cant even call this graffiti.... its trash. to a graff writer, graffiti is a part of there lives not just somthing they do. its a part of there lives that they leave behind were ever they go. its more than expessing them selves... its also a way to find themselves. ive been in this hospital. and iv also been to places that are only visited by graff writers. ive both seen and done what civilians call beutifull graffiti graffiti. and im sorry that this hospital was destroyed by not graff writers but bitches that dont know what graffiti is.

Wow, they must have missed this; nice mahogany wood to sell on ebay.
Ali, just because people have mental health issues doesn't mean that they're any more "under-developed" than the rest of society. And mental illness also does not automatically equal infantile behavior, or poor spelling and grammar skills.
i <3 this pic its really good but those ppl who were marking their tarritory....one word....STUPID!!! *dumbasses*
I hate graffiti..taggers its all crap. want to do art..put it on paper not walls of building, trash cans and bathroom walls and gas pumps...just proves how stupid one really is and just how disrespectful they are....they never should have allowed school spanking, elec. shocking, dipping in hot wax or use of the stockades to have been removed as punishment!...Kids and teenagers would be much much nicer these days!

Would love to have the banister in my house.....but not the "ART"
DaveWilly,

Equating all grafitti to tagging is like comparing Renaissance art to a 5 year old's drawing. Tagging is grafitti but not all grafitti is tagging, and neither are just symptoms of disrespect or stupidity (sometimes, but not always).

As for those lovely examples of physical punishment you mentioned, I assure you, no one ever turned out the better for abuse.
yo dave,
you sound like u got beat up alot in highschool or somthing.u seem to have alot of anger toward agroup of people youve probably never met. go do something usefull and finish up that hitlist u started in ur shit hole apartment for ur childhood bullies. put us "tagers" on while ur at it.
I think Dave may have used a little sarcasm there.....
Navi: I have seen some nice art on the side of some rail cars and on the grafitti wall in Venice Beach. But most of what I see is wanna be gang crap painted on freeway walls and road signs and ally walls....no ART to it at all. Spray can ART can be pretty cool. but random Tagging is just that. tagging...
snazo: your wrong there...I was the asshole stuffing people into lockers and trash cans in high school. and yeah I guess your right I hate punk kids with spray paint that tag walls and anything they think should be there marking spots...they should just get a job and buy their own house that they can call their own and wont have to try to claim something they will never own becaus eit belongs to a community.

sian: Thanks....you figured it out!!! lol
you cant just judge a group of people by the a actions of a few lowlife gang members who try to imitate the art if real graff writers... end of story
It looks like kids were having fun in the old hospital on the hill.
ok
, fun is that why they are so destructive
Somtimes kids do stupid things.
me and my friends just went there about 2 months ago and only the main structure was still intact
but there was an electrical building of the grounds a bit with a long tunnel that was wicked old and dark when we were about 300 feet into it all 5 flashlights went out at the same time then about 20 seconds later back on at the same time
it was a great trip its only about 20 mins away from my house too
u guys can go up there now i am doing research on it
I Can't believe those stupid developers wouldn't save this beautiful peice of workmanship in the remodel. I bet you it was discarded wastefully when demolition commenced. Disgraceful
It is in the section of the building that was saved. It was gutted, but maybe some of the wood work exists still elsewhere.
Scary and chilling
is that a vomit bucket
I think this is beautiful....well not the FATTY SALTY CAN'T REACH part, but the way the angels are happy above the devil...it really says something...makes ya wonder what was going through the graffer's head at the time....
"JC is Lord" says it all, clearly these idiots thought they were doing Gods work...
If I could only be forgivin for what I done in there. I did not mean to hurt them but they hurt me first. My heart is warm! Not black like "HE" said it was "He" lied !!!! Thats not nice . Won't somebody forgive me PLEASE ?!?! God make this go away !!!!!!!!!!!
