Danvers is incredeble for the roof alone.
This is the best picture !!!
i love this pic!
reminds me of prague. the aqua is a nice unexpected touch..
Holy cow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
why don't you have pics of the rest of the property? The other buildings are just as remarkable!!!!
I live far far away from Danvers, so I don't have many chances to scout things out, find entrances, and make my way around without getting arrested.
motts,
this is another remarkable shot! i have some good pics of danvers from a distance but, i' have not been fortunate enough to get "in" and really see the place. the tours were a joke in that they only took 20 people once a month. i'm sure that didn't even scratch the surface of the amount of people who want to get in. for now, we will settle for your great pics to allow us "in".
by the way, thank you for bringing these lost asylums to the public eye for us to look at. in reality, it's probably the closet most of us are going to get to most of these places considering demolition is on the way for most of them (unforunate indeed!).
Thanks peat moss, I find it incredible that these tours were so sparse, and even more so that no one has been allowed to see or photograph a registered historic landmark. I appreciate the pride that some towns have for their historic buildings instead of shunning them away, especially the Kirkbrides in Buffalo, Weston, and Athens.
SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GORGEOUS!!!
I've been printing out some of these beautiful pictures -- which is really all that's going to be left after they level the place.
I'm in Australia and i cannot belive the USA allows these wonderful building to be pulled down. We convert ours or turn them in to museums like Ararat, the 14 so buildings of Mont Park, Melbourne are now houses of grandness.
It's called GREED and the American Way.
I checked the Danvers website and as of yesterday 5/18, everything has been demolished except for the water tower and C ward. [BIG GROANING SIGH] I feel like someone in my family died. Of course, we still have these wonderful pictures, but I just feel so sad.
I just went into the Forum Photography site and saw the recent pictures by Porcelain Doll of the demolition. Danvers is still beautiful -- you can't take that away from her AvalonBay
Isn't it funny to consider how something built for ulitarian purposes ends up so colorful from time ,and ageing? The way the copper flashing on the roofline turned such a bright, almost turquoise shade of color, in contrast to the different hues of red from the bricks and boarded up windows.
I used to live up the road a bit from here and more than once almost drove off of the highway looking over at this place, it really is a unique structure.
The exquisite colors of the red bricks, the slate roofs, the green of the copper fittings, the mist in the background, the cuplos, the rust colored trees, the pebbled roof top. Such a beautiful but heartbreaking shot. All of Motts' shots of Danvers are heartbreaking beautiful, which will constantly remind me of what we lost!
You know, this photo looks like it is an ariel shot of an old town or village! LOL! Man these places are big!!! What a shame to lose them! <:(
I'd like to have one of those weather vane thingies if they're going to throw them away, tho! ;) What, are they copper?
I can not believe the nerve people have to try and make a buck off of selling BRICKS, SLATES, BUTTONS, and whatever off of this hospital on ebay. Out of curiousity, I went on that site and my mouth literally fell open. People in this world are so money-hungry, they make me sick!
nancy i have to agree with u i am only 17 and i agree
It looks like it is alive, weather beaten and tattered, but standing tall and proud. This building has character. So beautiful! Thanks Motts!
why are the trims green
The trim is green because the trim is/was copper. It turns green as it ages
The roof trim is copper, it weathers over time.
What a Treasure! Too Bad the whole building wasn't renovated. Actually, it shoulda been restored in it's orginal form and used for some constructive purpose, such as city affices and the like. The center 1/3 that was renovated is beautiful.
Well, wherever Kirkbride wrote his plans for here he could of hid them some where where no one could find them. If they found the building plans, they could knock it down and rebuild it back into a insane asylum for insane people who need some medications
WOW it was amazing
I dont know what u people talk about... Sure its a great building with history... A BAD history and it needs to be destroyd..
it shows why we dont have institutions like this now a day
tht is prob y its not distroyed
