Very classic, yet almost surreal. The color is beautiful.
This photo seems as lonely as the person whom perhaps gazed out of it.
Remindes me of the Ring Tree, great pic
I remember that movie.

Great picture, Mr. Motts. I want a print of this one.
BEAUTIFUL VIEW,YET LONELY AT THE THOUGHT OF STANDING THERE.
Gorgeous, yes it does have a lonely feel to it.
it is like an eye
This picture epitomizes the fascination that I have with old, abandoned buildings in general. The once used structure, now abandoned and lonely still resonates with the inhabitants from history. The viewer becomes a voyeur into the past, but the duality is they stand in the present.
it seems to be a very sad dark picture, i would have hated to be the person waking up and seeing this every day, knowing it was completely out of my reach.
This photo was driving me crazy. After an hour of looking through my book I discovered why. This tree reminds me of the tree in Matthew Brady's The Lone Grave

I like the color,very colorful
Beautiful! It looks like autumn. The color outside makes you think of peace.
If anyone wants to see moe pictures of Danvers, although I'm doubting much of this is original work look here: http://www.jeremybarnard.com/
beautiful photo!
I have been reading alot of of the diferent comment s that people have made about Danvers and I think it's a shame that they are going to tear this shit down!!! When I saw the movie session 9 I fell in love with the builing. The movie wasn't that great but it felt tlike th builing itself was a character.I have to say that these pictures are amazing! I had shivers down my spine when I was looking at these phots!! WELL DONE. I wish that there was some way for me to get there to see Danvers before it get torn down, but I think I would probably be too much of a chicken shit to go inside.lol!! Hands up to you going in there and taking these pictures.
I thought of The Ring when I saw this as well. I keep expecting that freaky little beyatch to come through my comupter monitor.
This window feels like you're almost looking through someone elses eyes. Feeling their emotions.
it looks so lonely
one of the best photos from this series ...

Jmack - super link - thanks!
found it by acident looking for the buildings they used in session 9 , the map is very good http://www.danvers-state-ia.com/buildid.html
That type of muted light is chiaroscuro
great picture! i like the colors too
bad bad pic
Hmm... I disagree. I always feel so trapped and alone when I look at this picture. Locked in a dark room and only able to look a better world and not be a part of it.
The irony is, when this hospital was in use I don't think that tree was there, it looks pretty young to me. So when the person woke up all they saw was an empty field, sad.
i just picked up the book danvers state a memoir of a nurse in the asylum. it has some interesting info although it is not the best writting i think it could have more content. still somewhat interesting.
it gives you that feeling of sadness. this is one of my favorite pictures
wow. that amazing. its like just being able to see the light but not reach it. =[ very sad.
Simply perfect, with the tree and the light. I love this shot.
I know that she's gone, that she's been ripped from everyday life. She's still with us and other hospitals as well. Mr. Motts gave her a memorial...the best I've seen. Thank you so much, I hope you see this someday being I'm posting so late.
Its so shocking how they only got out twice a day
sad too
sooo awesome i say wallpaper!
Wow! Amazing! It makes you want to run far away, escape this place.... run into the sunset,,,,far away....
I love to walk around in the pictures that everyone so graciously shares. This one is exceptional. It has an ominous feel to it.
I second that, Lynne. It would make an exceptional print.
Interesting perspective...a ray of hope, in the middle of the darkness.
DSH IS MY FAV. PLACE 2 B!!!! I LOVE THE WAY IT LOOKS NOW
The glacial drumlin the asylum sat on (Hathorne Hill) was at one time the site of the home of John Hathorne, one of the judges in the Salem witch trials. (Danvers was originally Salem Village at the time) Most of the witch trial incidents occurred in the general vicinity of this hill, not in present day Salem, MA.Thanxs motts great pic.
That is a very pretty shot. A little eerie but still a fantastic shot.
Beautiful!
I want more pics. I am going on here again on friday, If I dont see more pics i'll be upset.
Great shot. It doesn't look real.
I get this "All hope is gone" type feel with this. Idk maybe because it's pitch black around the frame and then the outside window is all sepia toned. Makes me think of "deterioration" and old and that sort of deal because y'know dirt, fall leaves, old picture ect ect.
