Cafeteria

Cafeteria

Rusted chandeliers lie on the flooded floor of the large cafeteria, which resembles more of a warehouse than a eatery.

I once visited a Metropolitan State mental hospital, but it was in Southern California! Quite different than this obviously. I was only in there about 2 hours and I was very uneasy and scared for at least the first hour. Then for some reason I decided I was going to be OK and I could relax. Creepy though.
I have been in this room and the room next to it is creapy cause it is all the old kitchen stuff that looks mad creapy. The tunnels are the best about this place.
interesting photo, I like it, the red chair in the back looks like it was moving, it is kind of blurry. other wise another great photo. Mr. Motts do you know of many places located in Washington State that are abandoned, if so please e-mail me at rtotten@soundfamilymedicine.com thanks!!!
are all the buildings gone now?
No, Medical and the CTG are still standing, I think they are renovating these.
couldnt find this room i was only at the auditorium, church and where the nurses stayed
it sad really, this place sure has seen better days, if you can call them better, staying in any hospital isn't fun. Looks as if a tornado wiped through there, all in all this place is pretty cool looking
Hey Motts, do you know exactly which buildings are down? Ive always wanted to go up and check the place out. Could you go back and take more pics after demo and of whats left? If you need it, I have an arial view of the place just before const. started.. you might find it useful to put up to mark which buildings are gone. Thanks!
I'm not positive but I think the power plant, Furcolo, morgue, and chapel are gone.

The next set of photos coming up will be from here, which include the medical building and CTG.
Thanks! I also know from another site that the laundry building is gone, along with the superintendants house, but i didnt know about the chapel. I'm looking foward to more pics!
Also, have you ever considered going to the Gaebler School right down the street? Thats another abandoned hospital, part of Metro.
Photos of Gaebler should be coming soon.
yeah!!! new photos!!!!! :-)
thank you for the gallerys on met state its my favriot kirkbride building ever it warms my heart and soul (like campells chicken noddle soup)
im going there tonight im scared
Another area of waste, waste waste.
doesnt look bad
I am so intrigued by these abandoned buildings, and the photos that all different visitors are able to capture. I am so curious about the metro and the other hospitals in that area...even the few that were abandoned but are still standing on the Mcclean campus.
I am currently at school right near the state hospital in Northampton, MA ...I think I will be venturing over there to poke around soon. Great photos Motts - I will keep checking back to see what new items you post.
I was Staff. The stories from the old-timers and lifers (both patients and staff) would be a liability lawyer's wet-dream. We are talking medical and pharma experimentation without consent for starters. On the other hand, I saw ECT (shock treatment) conducted first-hand and it helped the person's quality of life. They did a load of lobotomies in the "Medical" building. slamviche@yahoo.com
It goes to show that Mid-Michigan has nothing interesting to discover. Blah.......
could you read any of the papers?..if so what did they say?
I don't remember much paperwork in this building, if there were they were most likely dietary and kitchen supply related documents. The basement of this building held many personal files directly related to the patients.
whats it like at night?
are there other people there usually?
SOY DOMINICANO Y RECUERDO QUE TRABAJE EN ESE LUGAR POR MUCHO TIEMPO CON PACIENTOS QUE TODAVIA RECUERDO MUY AGRADABLE Y MIS COMPÑERO DE TRABAJO A QUIEN QUERIA MUCHO AUNQUE MUCHO YA ESTAN MUERTO TODAVIA LO SIGO QUERINDO,LOVE HICIANO
My attempt at translation of the above comment:
"I am Dominican and I remember that I worked in that place for a long time with patients that I still remember very fondly and my co-workers whom I loved alot, even though many are dead, I will always continue loving them." I haven't used Spanish for years, but hopefully I got the general idea right.
Thanks dme. Beautiful picture! I love the chaldeler.
Eatting there would be better then eating the crap my school serves....
Does anyone know any buildings in Washington State or Oregon. I love to explore places but am running out of places to go... If so email me at Elizabeth.Stoeckl@hotmail.com
Thanks so much!
Great photo's first off. Second, I too am looking for abandoned buildings in Washington state. I have already been to Lester, Monte Cristo and Northern State. If you could please help it would be greatly appreciated! the_bloccster@hotmail.com
i recently re discovered the place.i would drive mountain bikes and motor bikes some 20 years ago on the paths.i went to the \medical building recently and was amazed how cold the air around the place is.it was a warm day but in the windows a cold air comes out and you can see your breath.i wouldnt hang out around the place often or long because it does have a feeling of despair and bad energy going on.
My first job out of college was as a Recreation Therapist at Met State Hospital (1987) and the "cafeteria" was actually converted into the office area where about 12 of us "Rehab" staff were located. It looked nothing like this then, but it was kinda "eerie" (especially the bathroom area in the back. Wow, what a great site to stumble upon.
Isnt it true there was a murder ehre?
I was just on the grounds today, all that is still standing is the chapel and graveyards. My dad worked there in the late 70's/early 80's as a custodian. He does not have very nice things to say about it.
