Just stunning! Imagine the time and expense that went into the planning & contruction!
Places like this should be restored and re-used for another purpose. Almost painful to look at.
It is a shame that such beauty and such detail is rotting to nothing. They states should really look into restoring places like this. Like where I live, the mayor is more concerned on putting up a stupid stadium that no one wants that will cost the city millions of dollars to build. Try restoring the Smallpox hospital on Roosevelt Island first, or the Typhoid hospital on North brother Island, and even the 100's of years old building across the street from my house that is a piece of history just slowly decaying away. It is really ashame
Buckykatt317, I rather disagree that places like this should be restored. I also depose their being demolished. It is places like these thatinspire the adventure in people's hearts- not to mention, look at all teh beautiful photography that's been taken.
If left standing they will slowly crumble and sink into the ground. Others will be swallowed by the vines, which will also eventually pull them down.
That is so stunning. To bad its falling apart.
Stunning photography. what a sin to waste these glorious buildings. They are overwhelming in their beauty and terror. thanks for capturing them before it is too late.
what a terrible waste
we need waste, places that do go are best forgotten, what to do with this place,
in the uk they turn some into luxurey flats and houses, is that right? you cant leave everything standing. the energy of some places is too strong.
That's right about the UK chopsuey, there's a hospital in the city nearest me (in England), which was abandoned for as long as I can remember, and was genuinely creepy, and they converted it into a block of luxury flats. They look really nice I'm sure, but I don't think I'd want to live in them!
i couldnt imagine living in a building which had so much confusion, unhappiness, mania and tears in its history, itd be interesting to find someone who did ,or knew someone who did live in a converted physciatric hospital... anyone know any?
they do it with childrens homes too.... theyve shut most of the large homes and sold them off for mega bucks, same as the phsyc hospitals, where do the at risk kids and needy patients go now? its called" care in the community". the kids are left at risk and the vunarable must face a nightmare situation of trying to cope in a world they dont understand, or feel they belong in.....
Went downtown and observed the ghosties and gobelins, princesses and princes. It was a selict few and familes that paraded the streets of Hamp, and was delightful. I took a ride to the hill to see if I could get a feeling for old main. I stood on the grass field where it once exsisted and felt nothing, the spirits are gone and no longer exist. They are at rest and it time for a renewal. As I feel some regret, I feel that a time has past and a new , vibrant new use for a land that saw so much misery. So sad,to bad, I lost a lot, but I'm happy that the burial ground has become renewal ground. The spirits would approve. Bless you my friend, you gave me a forum that I wouldn't have had otherwise. Love you my friend, you are the best in all ways. Johnny Mac.
