wrought-iron lattice with Greek scroll above and what looks like highly embellished floral and garden relief beneath
OOOHHH! VERY PRETTY!
very good pic.....when was this building abandoned? im impressed by the non graffiti and distruction usually found in these hospitals
The contrast between areas the public would see (ornate and expensively decorated) and the plain, utilitarian wards and treatment rooms is always striking.
Its like this in the hospital i work at too rich. The lobby is all hard wood floors with massive, beautiful fish tanks everywhere, and the patient floors look like a fifties nightmare gone wrong, lol
Just FYI, the area behind the lattice work is usually used for pipes (for a pipe organ) in older theathers, and for speakers in more modern ones.
Looks like either Bogen or Argos speakers on the walls between the stage opening and the grate above the doors, they look to be boxes with 12 six or 8 inch speakers each in them. These are pretty typical for a sound system from that time period. Probably powered by a 15 to 35 watt 70-volt commercial amplifier. Not anything remotely like what would be used in a theater today.
I have a set of Argos MSD-1121 speakers that look like those except they are wider and shorter with the same number of speakers. I got them in a bar years ago. I believe they were made in 1964. They are called; Argos sound director music column with proven "Tanco Focused Sound"
Argos Sound Directors model SSD-1060 series. The longer version the MSD series you speak of...
What wonderful detailing!
Those are organ grilles above the doors. A pipe organ sat behind there.
Kinda looks like one of those old time radios, my grandparents listened to.
unbelievable how it still looks in good condition
yeah, the black area behind the grate would be vertical shutters actuated with the pedal on the organ, this is the volume control........ open it all the way to let the sound out, close it to muffle them..........
I agree....pipe organ. I wonder if it's remains are still there. Interesting.
I would love to sing there!
Really pretty details.
i know right? lol i have 4 12" speakers in my trunk
Looks like a 50's juke box LOL
