Ok so I now see that they did know not to put any thing into the mouth of a person taking a seizure.

The bottom part of the poster that says complex partial seizures is what a Petit Mal seizure is, or a smaller form of siezure. The description of it is kinda funny though because it says do not stop or restrain the person and the bottom line says do not (agitate? hard to read ) the person. During a Complex partial seizure you're not actually with it enough to know what's going on and it's the same thing as a black out without passing out but you don't have the convulstions and everything.

I think the bottom part says:

Administer first aid and call for medical assistance.
COMPLEX PARTIAL SEIZURES
(TEMPORAL LOBE, PSYCHOMOTOR)
-Do not try to stop or restrain the person
-Try to remove harmful objects from the person's pathway or gently coax the person away from them
-Do not agitate the person
Lynne
Funny story.........

person in a petit Mal ....naked pressed up against a full window, refused to be coaxed away, so I just drew down the shades as far as I could, at least no one walkin by would see his face.

You can tell that poster is old. Today it would be printed in four languages.

I've had a grand mal seizure before. You feel like pure shit when the seizures over.
Andy
Andy, I used to work with people who had petit and grand mal seizures. The aftermath is no picnic. I feel for you, man. Do you still suffer with seizures, or no?

Twug I still have seizures. I have a seizure months go by without having one and then it hits me. The latest I had was on March 17, 2006.
Andy
Take care of yourself, Andy. I hope you recover quickly. I know they're harsh.

Being a paramedic in NYC, we see these everyday. it's true, most times you don't remember a anything after a seizure. In fact, some people laugh or are amazed later on when we describe how serious the situation looked. I see that the procedures back then don't differ much from what they are now. One of our EMT's actually had his finger bitten off by a person having a seizure when he tried inserting a "oral airway". We nicknamed him "thumbs up" lol.
EMSMedic
I deal with diferent types of seizures every day> I am the father of an epileptic (LGS) who has anywhere between 3 and 20 seizures a day. She has myclonic, tonic clonic, atonic, partial complex, ocular, and focal seizures.

You cannot put anything in the mouth of someone having a seizure because it is a choking hazard, when you have a seizure you are not in control of your muscles and you could easily bite off whatever has been put in your mouth and choke or you could accidentally bite and injure the person trying to insert something into your mouth. .
