The Mansion

The Mansion

This 19th century mansion is located at the entrance, and is slated for demolition... the wooden structure is very unstable and has collapsed in some places.

It's a shame that such a beautiful structure was left to waste away.
It was torn down May 2005
This is in the next town over from me and it has been a shame watching it go waste for all these years.
WHO OR WHAT SICK PERSON WOULD TEAR DOWN SUCH A BEAUTIFUL PLACE????
The town, owners of the property. Bear in mind ithad been neglected and unoccpied for 15 years. A large section of the front wall (buckling for years) gave way and collapsed. The structure had been evaluated as unsalvageable.
What was built on it? Another doctors office? or
Wal-Mart?
Nothing so far. The plan is for some of the property to become a park with the mansion's foundation used as a formal garden. Originally, the school building was to be used as a new location for the village library. Alas, the building structure was found not to be engineered to meet the wieght stress of the stacks, and the water damage due to neglect of the structure was much worse than originally thought. It looks as if it too will meet the wrecking ball.
Well it couldv'e been used for something other than hightening the piles at the junkyard.
That's so sad... it's a shame they couldn't save it. It's such a waste when people let beautiful historic buildings like this go to rack and ruin.
I live in this town and there was a lot of vandalism within the buildings of the Salesian property, a couple of years ago some "punk rocker" kids in my school started a fire there and there was police investigation... now it's torn down. There really was no point in trying to save it, you could see it from the street and it was basically a piece of shite..
And here is always my big question; why are these places neglected for so long that they're beyond repair? I just can't understand that and I guess I never will. It happens ALL over, too. Where I grew up, so much is gone and yes, there are Wallmarts, houses, apartments. Money, money, money. That's all that's important anymore.
it is a shame such a beautiful structure
Its such a beautiful building, there's nothing like this in England.
But there's one thing.. To me it just screams 'Amityville Horror'.
I think its the shape of the front part.
Is this still intact? I wish they could have saved it. It's very beautiful.
It such a shame that the mansion had to be torn down. I grew up in Goshen and passed the mausoleum, mansion and Salesian School every day to go to school. I was recently in Goshen while on leave and visited the grounds. The school and tower were fenced off but the new park they opened on the grounds is lovely.
I didn't know the mansion was torn down. I always celebrated Christmas there and ate cookies and sang beautiful carols, and went there every day after school with my mom in the late 70's cause my mom worked there.
Just makes me sick that people destroyed it and all that is left is memories for people like me.
When I graduated high school at Burke it was still ok that was in 1985.
