Wow, that hall is quite peculiar...I wonder what the original builder's intent was? Perhaps he created that design for when it was abandoned, so that it gavethe effect that something just wasn't quite right.
Either way though, great shot.
Methinks it'd be hard to hand picture frames on that wall though.
The hallway would most likely be a later addition, from the pitch of the wall it seems to be the attic, am I right Mott?, so to conserve space and build more rooms, they followed the rafter angles.
It was on the top floor of the building... either they followed the angle of the roof or the space was used for pipes, supports, etc.
The Mansion was originally 2 houses. They where later connected by a center wing.
Its probably following the roof angle. I have a Dutch Colonial, built in '25. You have to tilt your head to go downstairs..... :)
Yeah, it looks very strange.
cool looking hallway
It appears to reflect the shape of the roof along one end. If they had built the hall with normal angles it would have forced them to build a very squared-off roof.
Nosferatu:)
What was the framed area on the left side of the hall? It looks like a small doorway perhaps? Crawlspace?
This is more than likely servant quarters...the small rooms could have been for maids. or children.
does anyone else see like a small disfigured shape like a small outline of a head or something????????????
did you by anychance feel any strange presence there Mr. Mott?????
I was a student at Salesian from 68-72. These rooms are on the third floor of the mansion. I was in one of them for a few days when ill. They would take sick students out of the big dormitory and put them in these rooms until better. The framed area on the left might be a dumb-waiter. They had one in that building. Can't be 100% on that though.
I'm gonna guess an access panel for either storage or for repair to plumbing, electrical,etc...too small to be door
