Departure
I've known about Dixmont for quite some time, but Pittsburgh is a crappy drive from NYC for what seemed like a shell of a building. But I heard they were about to tear it down, and it is a Kirkbride, so off to PA we went!
The building looked stripped, but not as trashed as I thought it would be. The floors were in amazingly good shape for a building with no windows, and although the place was very empty I enjoyed photographing the arches and angles amidst the empty space. The light started to set quickly so I shot over to the medical building to take a peek at the morgue and laboratory... I missed out on the dining hall unfortunately but at least I got to see most of the campus.
So here's my first and last trip to Dixmont State Hospital... I hope I did the place justice.
