I wasn't able to do any historical research on Consonno before visiting; I only knew there were some strange and fascinating abandoned buildings here in the Italian countryside. Little did I know that the access road was blocked every day, except during certain hours on Sunday so people could access the old cemetery. With lots of luck, we happened to arrive on Sunday during those hours.
As I started shooting, the site reminded me of an abandoned amusement park (sans rides), but the "temple" kept throwing me off. Here was this impressive minaret, attached to a building which had tiny rooms that seemed unsuitable for much. I hadn't imagined it was a shopping mall built by an eccentric businessman in the 1960s! So, I left happy but a bit confused that day.
