We pulled into a busy Penny Markt parking lot and got out of the car. While most people walked towards the entrance with empty shopping carts, we headed into the thick brush surrounding the old hospital building next door. There was no fence to impede us. None of the shoppers seemed to care either.
Tall trees hugged right up against the decorative brick facades, but open doors were easy to spot in the small "forest." The buildings seemed well traveled but not recently lived in. Amidst the graffiti and garbage dumped into the open windows and doors, the hospital was elegantly beautiful in form and color. We had to step lightly in a few areas; even the large wood timbers were rotted through from gaping holes in the roof, leaving some floors with no other option than to just give up. Many barred windows contrasted with the delicate elegance of the place, leaving me to believe this was a psychiatric hospital at some time until I did some further research. All in all, it was a quiet and splendid afternoon of shooting.
