All the Rectangular Rooms
For some reason it took me quite a while to visit Central Islip Psychiatric Center, with Kings Park and Pilgrim all being so close together... it soon became a regular and relaxed place to photograph on hot summer days. This gallery consists of the first few visits I made to Corcoran, the secure unit... although the views inside were repetitive and spartan at first, I began to really get involved in all the different corners and nuances of every wing and ward. I found ward reports, patient diaries, and other curiosities while roaming the halls over and over, hidden beneath layers of dust and grime, in rusted file cabinets and under overturned furniture.
The tall building let in a beautiful golden light at sunset, which was a favorite time for me to visit, and getting lost in the darkness afterward was always fun.
