We called our contacts in London on the way back from Middlewood Hospital to schedule a trip to see
Cane Hill, one of the "crown jewels" of asylum exploration in England... we were to meet at 3:00, and everything was set to go.
We slept a few hours, which was too much, and we got a late start heading out to Coulsdon... not wanting to miss this opportunity, we nailed the rental car down the highway; I remember a red light camera flashing once or twice on the way. We arrived one minute early, and waited in the dark for our contacts. After about 45 minutes of waiting and unanswered phone calls, I scouted out the hospital a bit on foot... it seemed pretty quiet and the sun was slowly rising. We thought about going for it, as we've done everything alone except for Severalls Hospital so far, but we had no idea what was in store for us here (cameras, dogs, alarms, etc) and we knew security was tight, so we decided to wait a bit longer, and then try for something else nearby... Normansfield Hospital.
Normansfield was nice, quiet, and uneventful, which was good since I was pretty sleepy. The vapor trails from the jet planes overhead were very prominent and long lasting that day, which made for some really unique exterior photographs.
We found out later on that day that we were supposed to meet up at 3:00PM, not AM... I thought the 24 hour clock was used in England all the time!
