Hi, Newbie here. Name's Gina. Absolutly love all  the photos. I love history, and old abandoned house/buildings.  Does anyone know how/where to find these places and are there any around Nebraska? I'm big into photography, and have taken classes and would love to try to get some shots like this, but cannot find any good locations in Nebraska. Any ideas would be welcome.... Thanks   Smiley

Welcome, Gina! I wondered if you were going to just register,
or if you were going to be active around here. Glad you decided
to introduce yourself.

As for finding the sites, it takes a bit of a nose, for the most part.
I recommend you don't go out alone, unless you're perfectly comfortable
with a site. It's a great idea to have others along, if for no other
reason than to watch your back and be available to call for help
if it's needed.
Sorry, but I can't offer anything about Nebraska sites.

In the meantime, I'd like to offer some refreshments to you.
Pull up a chair, get comfortable, and settle in.

Coffee & doughnuts?

There's also hot pizza

Or fruit, if you prefer

Nothing good ever came out of Nebraska.... That's false, as I have two good friends there.

Welcome. You'll find that folks here are reluctant to share locations openly, for a variety of reasons. You may get some info via pm, though.

Welcome Gina.

Welcome aboard!  One way of digging into your local region is google around for such things as "Nebraska ghost towns" and similar search terms.  That might get you pointed in the right direction.  Many times, you'll find...  nothing.  Maybe some country crossroads with nothing in sight anymore.

Other times, you'll stumble across some hidden jewel.

You can start at these sites:

http://freepages.history.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~gtusa/usa/ne.htm

http://www.theshadowlands.net/places/nebraska.htm

http://www.airfields-freeman.com/NE/Airfields_NE.htm

http://ed-thelen.org/loc-n.html#Nebraska

Or, you can look around the centers or fringes of some of the larger towns and cities around you.  Old industry and/or agricultural buildings, warehouses, silos, factories, things like that are often found in areas like that.

When traveling, stick to smaller highways, avoiding the Interstates.  You'll find more interesting stuff off the beaten path.

A lot of what you find is what you're looking for.  Where in Nebraska are you?

Welcome! Have some fun here and to be really honest: the best places are the ones you stumble across yourself: WAY more satisfying than finding it on the net.
Not like that isn't fun tho Smiley

Thanks to all for the suggestions, since weather and moody match both being equally crappy, guess i'll be on the internet tonight looking at the suggestions listed, that way i can avoid putting others in the same frame of mind! Just sucks cause i got no one to hit the road with and i get lost so easily. There are so many dirt roads that can be explored here for abandoned farms. NE- yes very farm country/oriented state. Other than that there is Husker football which personally i can't stand and not much else. Except great storms to go chase!
BTW Love the picture of the fruit gone bad.. very cool shot.

Isn't that sacrilegious in your state..?   Wink

I'd love to chase some big-ass storms across the plains and document that.
