On the danvers state insane asylum site check out the link to the Essex (Middleton) Sanitarium  It was on the hill across the small valley from Danvers.   The Essex county Jail sits atop the hill now.

Already gots it.  I tell ya, I am a sucker for these places.   :-k

What amazing buildings. Anything that stands empty or looks pretty is ripped down and replaced by flats within about...oooh...2 days in my home town. It is now a mass of grey concrete and glass. Verry poo.

What a great collection Lynne, the
central State Hospital picture looks similar to one of the buildings used by the Pine Rest  facility.
I especially like the handwriting on the check in the first picture.

I've got some great postcards saved up of former institutions in Michigan.  Michigan was the only state outside of the New England area that really kicked ass with their architectural style of psychiatric facilities in the old days.

Lynne,

I am in love with WSH (how lazy of me, I only live half an hour away and despite my friend's cries of "I need to take you there!" I've never been) and it's awesome that you get to have that piece of its history...same for all the other things, too.

How did I miss this Lynnie?  So, um.... you wanna send me copies of those books?  Just for research, of course... Cheesy  Surprisingly, I know the last two topics WAY too well (worked for 4 years in a Women's Health clinic), and probably know most of the stuff in the first one too...  But what exactly are "Excessive Immoral Sexual Functions"?  Lynnie, wanna demonstrate for me? Cheesy
