OK, today's item I received was an old 1867 booklet from the "New Jersey Lunatic Asylum" in Trenton, New Jersey (USA).

Here's an old postcard of the place:

Here's the front of the booklet:

But check out the amazing map, showing just what a hell of a Kirkbride this place was:

That map is great!

I had to laugh when I read "to his excellency," It makes him sound like he was a king or something instead of just a governor.

This has been a great week for goodies in the mail.  What I received today - "Indiana 1926":

Here's where I worked a few years back (although it was much bigger by then, obviously):

This describes the various state psychiatric hospitals in Indiana in 1926:

A pic of all of them:

Close-up - Northern State Hospital - "Longcliff" (Logansport):

Close-up - Southern State Hospital - "Woodmere" (Evansville):

Close-up - Eastern State Hospital - "Easthaven" (Richmond):

Close-up - Central State Hospital (Indianapolis):

Close-up - Southeastern State Hospital - "Cragmont" (Madison):

I'm glad you're an LCP, Lynne, or else somebody might think you're a bit off your rocker collecting all that old Asylum stuff.  Erm ... nevermind.  We all /know/ you're off your rocker.  But we luff you just the same.  Awesome collection, hun!

Amazing stuff Lynne, you are so lucky to own such a neat piece of history.  I'm turning green with envy, (not literally of course Cheesy )

Thanks again for sharing it with us.

Holy shit that Trenton State Postcard is awesome !!!! I can't beleive how amazing it was. It doesn't look anything like that anymore, they completely butchered the facade of the admin with a hideous remodel.

On the danvers state insane asylum site check out the link to the Essex (Middleton) Sanitarium  It was on the hill across the small valley from Danvers.   The Essex county Jail sits atop the hill now.
