I made a stop at Danville today, and took some pictures. Nothing to special just a few of the kirk. It looks like they are doing a good job on the renovations.

Cool. I especially like that shot with the tree in front of the hospital (#6, I think).

Cyber, Danville is 136 years young with at least 500 patients. Thejoker beautifully captures her getting a new skin.

Thanks all. Yes its very much in use. The buildings that where behind where I took the pictures from had razor wire on the top of all the fences.

I'm so happy to see a Kirk so lovingly cared for.  That whiter finish makes it look sorta like the asylum images from "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest."

If it's well-preserved, central admin must be gorgeous.

I didn't even know this structure was being renovated, nice shots, it looks to be coming along quite well.

Yes'm. I looked at a contract job there last year as a psychologist but decided not to pursue it, which, given that it is a Kirkbride, took a lot on my part.   Smiley

Several pix of Danville from the past:

I have several dozen pages from court records of people being committed to Danville around 1916 or so.

I didn't get that far. There are some national contract companies that hire specialists to go to different states for short term contracts (I have worked for three of them across the country) and I had considered it briefly but decided I wanted to stay in intellectual disabilities instead of moving back to mental health. Not that we don't deal with tons of mental health issues, mind you, it's just a different focus.
