Anyone have some of their favorite photos they've taken of buildings/architecture (in use or abandoned) they'd like to share? Would be pretty neat to see what Opacity fans are getting on their own. Hell, since we're all Opacity junkies, I suppose any pics of buildings, architecture, or anything else large and decaying would do.

I have a few goodies to show as well, but I don't want to only plug my own stuff, so I'll wait until we have some photos here.   Cheesy

  Thank you.  I'm hardly an "old hand" with this stuff, but I've always loved exploring old buildings ... and abandoned parts of inhabited buildings.

Lyric and I have another target in our sites.  It's truly an "Urban Ruin."  It's going to make for some very interesting shots, I think.

Thanks, I just set the camera up on a tripod, pressed the shutter, then painted the light on the stand from above without getting it in the shot (with a white LED flashlight). The trick is to move away from the camera when light painting or using a flash. You need to have the manual focus set as well, the autofocus will probably not work in such dark conditions.

OK, going to go ahead and post a few of mine. Not abandoned buildings by a long shot, but still Opacity-inspired and good photos nonetheless. I had just gotten my new *IST DL, and emailed Mr. Motts himself for a few tips about shooting in the dark, since I had almost no experience with night photography or shooting in dark conditions. He replied with some tips, and here's the results (resized for web of course)...

30 seconds exposure time on this one, the area was nearly pitch black. First time I had ever shot with the shutter open that long, really impressed with the result. Looks kinda crappy in this size though, a larger version with more detail can be seen here (still not as nice as the 8MP full size though): http://www.photodump.com/direct/xtacyturbo/IMGP0061.jpg

Rest of the shoot can be seen here: http://photobucket.com/albums/v504/xtacyturbo/12-27%20Night%20shots/

Already got my location picked out for the next shoot, and it definitely will be true to the theme of Opacity- I call the spot the equipment graveyard, it's an area full of rusted old trucks and cranes, piles of cinderblock and brick, other misc. rusted old equipment, and a small decaying factory on site. Just waiting for the right time and weather to go do it.

Loving everyone's pics! Keep up the good work!

Right on, X!  Good call on making the rest of us show our stuff.

This was an abandoned tourist trap in Florida, and this guy's all that's left.

I think most of you have seen these before, but some of you might not have...

This is the old abandoned hotel that first got me into urban x:

I don't have a photo-editing program (besides Paint) otherwise I think I would have tried them in black and white.  I also didn't get much of a chance to explore, I was alone, wearing sandals, and thought I heard a dog... I keep wanting to go back, but this place is 1 1/2 hours away from me.

This isn't really Opacity-style, but I like this picture.  I took it a couple of years ago and nothing in it was abandoned.  My town is just depressing. Smiley

An vagrant was killed on those tracks last month.  The train cut off his legs.  I assume he was committing suicide.

Barbara, you may want to try a free program called, Photoplus.  It will let you do grayscale and several other things.  I've used Photoshop 6 for years, but for freeware, it's a pretty good photo-editing program.

The famous "New Haven Modern Motel"!!!! I have some cool shots from there that I will have to dig out and scan. One is a plastic squirt gun stuck in a tree in a most impossible fashion (like it was there when the tree was young and the branch grew into the gun).
