I've often thought about designing a small scale (3500-4500 s.f.) house based on the kirk plan, just for the hell of it. I doubt it would be feasible due to cost and inefficiency, but if theres ever the day somebody walks into the architecture firm I work for and says "I want a kirk-house!", I'll be prepared.  Smiley

You work at an architectural firm? Which? And what do you do? I also work at an architectural firm as a draftsman. DMJM H&N here in Los Angeles, CA Smiley I've drawn a "kirk house" before for fun, still have all the plans.

Oh, now you're sparking MY architectural interests!!  (former architecture major here).  Grin

Theoretically, a Kirk could be significantly scaled down if you used a series of elongated rooms for each "wing" to scale down the size of it to a more feasible level.

::starts digging around for some graph paper and my sketchbook::

(now, see what you've started?  LOL!)

If I could afford (both financially and mentally) to build an apartment complex, it would definitely be based on a Kirkbride (the full kirk, not just the center).  Don't know which on precisely, I'd have to think seriously about it, and I don't usually think that seriously on my pipe dreams...

As for building my own mansion...  Yeah, I know this is kinda lame, but I would love to have a mansion based on the Liberty Square Haunted Mansion.  It has such a cool exterior, and would be the perfect type of place for me to live.  Cheesy

what a great question.
i think buffalo has that mansion look.
i've always liked bennett school for girls, though.  it reminds me of
yellowstone lodge, which i love.
z-wheels- that "home for sale" you posted- it looks like
disney's haunted mansion in orlando.  where is it, may i ask?

I started out as a drafter and 3-D modeler, got involved in the design process a lot more, and then into project management.  Basically I put jobs together now with little more than a rough sketch.  I work for a firm in Binghamton NY, but it's a large one with about 15 offices between NY, NC, and GA.
