... pics will be coming.  I went today and we took almost 200 pictures.  Pretty much repeats of what has been posted, but I have pics of the farm located there.  The guard told us that the patients were buried there in unmarked graves.  I'll have to do some research to be certain.  I snuck up there when he was away and got some pics of a couple of barns and the stables as well as an old farm house.  The road kept going, but my boyfriend was playing lookout and I had been gone a while, so I came back without going any further.  I'll be heading back before too long to go out further on the farm.  I'll post some pics tomorrow.  I have to pick out the good ones.  Tongue

Okay, I can't sleep.  I resized and uploaded some pics, but I have more that I will post later.

The security guard said that this part of the building is really falling in (hence the fence) but he said inside, it was the most well preserved.  He said that the paint was barely chipping in there.

Some signs:

The TB ward:

Some west-side shots of the main building:

Library (forensics):

Glowing greenhouse:

Faces.  There are several around the windows and I know they mean something, but I can't remember what:

"Office"... notice the ghetto spray paint above the door:

Cute little building the guard said he didn't even have a key to:

I was told that this place held a crematorium, but I dunno if it's true:

Just a couple views to give you an idea of how HUGE this place is:

Weird little walkway that cut through a building:

Farm Pics:

The last pic was the inside of the farm house.  I was all excited, but there was absolutely nothing to see.

Another pic of the farm and the road that I didn't have time to go down.  I think the cemeteries are up there:

I have learned that there are three cemeteries, most with unmarked graves.

Tomorrow (later today), I will post some pics that we managed to sorta get of the interior through windows and then some more outside pics.

Thanks everyone!

Tommeh, the security guard walked around with us for a little while, but he pretty much did his own thing most of the time.  I actually had to approach him because he just watched us from inside his car.  I wanted to ask him questions. Smiley

Here's some more pics.

Interiors (some of these are a bit blurry... keep in mind that they were taken through a window)

I'm really impressed by the interior shots, since you had to take them through the window!  Good job!

Cool stuff, thanks for sharing! Were most of the interior photos from the Kirkbride building?

These are amazing shots - thanks so much - even though it was quite a download.

You mentioned that one building may have held a crematorium? I'm guessing not as I couldn't see a chimney.
Not an expert on these matters, though!

More of these, please.

Most of the interior pictures weren't taken in the main building.  The windows are so high up and you can't walk up to them because of the basement.  It's open with steps leading down, so you would fall trying to see in most of the first floor windows.  Pictures 3,7,8 and the next-to-last were the only ones taken in the main building (I think).  The first one was from the medical center.  Several were through building 201.  The unknown building with the alleged crematorium.  There is no chimney (like Bill pointed out) and it would have been cheaper to bury them anyway.  The hospital was far from being rich.  Although the buildings were beautiful, the horrible things that went on in it weren't.

My boyfriend took most of the interior shots.  His camera is a million times better than mine and he didn't use the flash.  I can show you a picture with the flash and without the flash and you can see the major difference.  It was sunny as hell that day, so most of the rooms were pretty bright.  Ironically, there were holes in some of the windows that were perfect to take a picture from.  I would hope that someone didn't do it for that purpose, but it did work to our advantage.

I can dig out more pics to post and we are going back... possibly this weekend as it's a little over an hour drive and I am obsessed with the place.   Oh, and we are going to hit up the library for as much info as possible.  I also need to find their historical society.  Some have libraries of their own.  I need info!

Awesome pics!!

When I was there I had a serious shortage of both time and light, which stifled my efforts a bit- especially on the interior shots. I tried taking a lot more than I posted, but I just didn't have enough light for most of them, and hadn't brought my tripod. I didn't get to go check out the farm either. I definitely want to photograph it again, maybe we could organize a group trip sometime.

Takes me about the same amount of time to get there from Morgantown- you wouldn't happen to be there by chance, would you?

No.  I'm about two hours west of you... on the border of Ohio and West Virginia.

Definitely when the weather gets warm, we could arrange a group trip.

Anyone interested in some real interior pics as well as patient art:
