My abandoned memories

This house belonged to my great grandparents. It has sat abandoned since thier deaths. There has been much conflict in the family about the house and the property. That is why it has sat empty and alone. I can very vividly remember spending much of my childhood there. Yes, it is a log house. It was covered with boards at one point. The actual log frame of the house is still strong. It is only the parts that aren't made of log that have given way. It is one of the first houses built in this area. I don't know the exact year. It has always been a part of the family. It has recently been sold and will probably be taken down by the new owners. Good bye, Nanny & Pappy's house! Many warm memories stood within your walls. Good bye. Even after your walls are gone, your memories will remain within my heart.
[I can't tell you how many times I ran in and out of that door in my bare feet. I stepped on a copperhead just under that little overhang there too.
This was the view of the house that you first saw when visiting Nanny and Pappy.
Our log cabin.
Nanny's sunporch is falling off.

Spring has arrived!
Kitchen wall with bird nest above the door. Nanny always had tea and crackers with jam for everyone.
A once very welcoming door looks so empty now.
[Those stairs are horribly steep and it really hurts when you call down them. (and roll out into the living room)
Nanny & Pappy's bed is still in thier bedroom.

[The view out of Nanny's favorite window. She sat in her rocking chair and watched out this window. I don't think she would mind my dad's truck sitting there. (her grandson)
I wanted to show you a close up of the logs but I am having trouble getting the correct picture in there.

Cool pics AMM, it looks sad, but the main structure and roof appear sound, hopefully the new owners will save it.
My family on my fathers side was split in the 1920s over the sale of a house, it just doesn't make sense to me. :?

Well, there were so many squabbles over what should be done. Then it was sort of hoped by everyone that my cousin Donny would move back to Pennsylvania and want it. He grew up in the house and always had a deep love for it. However, his life was now in another state with his new family. So, it just sat.

My family has moved around so much, there really isn't a historic family home.

Terrific pictures of the old place, Mayme! How sad though, that it won't be fixed up and lived in by family. I too could "feel" the memories with you just looking at these pics. Thank you for that!

Oh Woweee! I think log cabins are so historically wonderful! That looks restorable! I really hope it stays.
Your definitely getting a visit from me this summer. Between your real working farm, and your daughters I really want to meet, and now this log cabin.
It all sounds so exciting. And especially getting to see YOU!

NICE, Mayme!!! Nice...Beauiful pics. I too hope they save it...that would be nice. And, as others have mentioned, I could feel the sense of family in the pictures...the captions help too.....Thanks for posting them!!!
