I’m always curious about what all has happened in these places and why they are eventually closed down. Of course the latter is almost always do to the move towards deinstitutionalization  (sp?)  But I was checking out Yaggy’s awesome Riverside set on photobucket, and the last shot in the set seems to be of the inside of a large and fairly new looking building (very late 70’s - early/mid 80’s). http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v479/yaggy/Riverside/?action=view&current=4.jpg

I don’t know, It just seems to me so unusually new & useable  to be abandoned. It makes me wonder if there may be an equally unusual story behind this particular place... Anyone?

The kirkbride building is supposed to be saved and restored but the newer medical building might be demolished.  (thats the building you posted a picture of)

correction, it's the recreation bldg.
i like the whole campus, though.
the kirk is the spotlight, but everything there is cool in its own way.

I had a weird dream about the big newer medical building a little wile back, and I’ve never even been there.  :lol:

It is a great campus. That particular Kirkbride is definitely one of my favorites. I always thought it would be a great model to base a mansion on.

the concept is to turn the campus into a hotel slash condos. i think the large medical building chenney would be PERFECT for a hotel - 8 floors not to mention it's rather neat looking. The only definte building they are keeping of course is the kirkbride. i know some buildings that are def getting demolished whereas some are unsure about.

I wanna see Riverside so bad, It's the closests Kirk and I have never seen it. Or a Kirkbride in general. But I love collapses so I especially wanna see Riverside.

it's a lot more tactful to use psuedonyms in a wide-open public forum.
when the h-word wasn't flung around so freely, it was an oasis of abandoned stuff. now po-town cops watch it like its a government monument. if someone was serious about going there, they'd have sent a private message for more info.

for places that are secret, hudson too widely known. it's like trying to hide byberry. How come danvers and metro and pennhurst never got psuedonyms? theres places you can't hide - and i had a discussion with motts in my past hudson thread that i dont have to hide the name, "it was no big deal".

The place was pretty low key back in '04... I never changed the name on this site because it has always been accessible and in pretty good shape, meh no big deal  

and we both know why the cops patrol is so much, not because someone posted the name on a forum but because indivduals last june fucked up the place. that's why they patrol like crazy. First time i went i spent 12 hours at hudson which was 2 weeks before the incident and never saw a cop nothing at all. and i was outside the kirkbride running around.

I'm hoping to hit up Hudson sometime this summer,Hopefully. My friend had a bad experience there so who knows.

Anyone know when it's supposed to be developed? Abating the Kirkbride is gunna be a bitch from what I've seen on pictures.

i agree that it's too late to downplay its real name. it's like urine in a swimming pool. it's out there on the internet and you ain't changing that, now.

but you could always set an example.
especially when the forum is not private.

when you got a lot of internet kids converging on a site because they heard about it so openly on the internet, it makes it a hundred times harder for the rest of us who've been at this game a long time and would like to make a return trip. you may have gotten permission, and i might do the same, but permission is boring and often only opens up a small portion of the property.

i know it wouldn't have made any sense to hide Danvers, since its right off a major highway plus its well known and the state police barracks are diagonally right across the entrance. met state was on a road where there are 2 other state complexes that are pretty much well known in that area. plus theese places were unsafe and sold off to crapalon bay. what i don't want too see is riverside/ Hudson get all tagged up. also with this building being a kirkbride, it is gonna be impossible to hide its identity, kinda like trying to hide Worcester or Taunton

That's us in Mass we put our Mental hospitals onto of hills where they are easy to spot

dang i thought they did that in case you were driving by and the kids in the back wouldn't stop saying "are we there yet?" and you could show them that yes, you were there, to drop them off and leave them behind
