As a few of you may already know, today marks 1 year since demolition began.

There are three buildings remaining.. S-10, E-6, and the remains of the sewage disposal plant. The one you're referring to was never part of Byberry, but was the old Philadelphia Prison Farm (or something along those lines).

It wasn't a part of the same land, I don't believe.  It's actually not even in Ben Rush Park, it's in Poquessing Creek park - though, you rarely see any reference to that park.  I know the fields you're talking about, my Dad still refers to it all the same way, ha.

As Andrew G said, it's the Phila County Prison Farm.  I've been doing a lot of research on it, with a lot of help from others who are truly interested.  It's a nice spot, and you can learn a lot by just looking around it.  A lot of history just in one place.  If you're interested in anymore info on it, just ask in PM or something sometime.  I bore a lot of people way too often typing it out on here, ha.

Did they clean all the debris fields up yet and build?   Grin

It's just acres of mud piles.
The "Built and ready to move in by December 2007" was not met, though.
From the looks of it, they're installing piping and starting on road layouts. And, there was a steady gaggle of cars coming to the information trailer this past weekend inquiring on the wondrous $300,000 homes.
I'd blame the failing housing market and building company troubles from said-failed market on the slowing of building.  Though, I could be wrong.
The designated business side owned by Brandywine has 5 years to find companies to move into that area, too.  Expect mud piles with patches of grass for a lil' while.
As far as debris piles, they've been gone for a good while now.  A better job done than that of the other campus.

If you're really interested, just go to http://www.northeasttimes.com from time to time (if you don't live in the NE and get the paper) and keep up on it.

And for anyone interested - Lincoln Tech got denied for use of the land despite the original unanimous vote.

Maybe.  I'll still cut down Carter Rd sometimes on my daily drive by.

Where was the bowling alley in Byberry?

I believe it was in S1 or S2.

Photo is from Goddog's collection.

It was in S-2. S-1 was a workers building, it was built in 1941. S-2 was Byberry's recreational building, and was constructed in 1947.
