as said in opacity related -- i'd say... the building has been abandoned for decades, there was no electricity to the building, .... what would you think?

one could only hope it was not arson, but if you think about it, there's no way it couldn't be.  There was no electricity to the building, and they said that it was a popular attraction because it could have been "haunted".  Sadly it was probably some aging hippies or heroin addicts or something.

I dispise arsonists   . They are nothing other than a bunch of faggots.

Many may not want to see these, but it would be neat to see current pictures of Taunton State Hospital.

The fire damage seems to be mostly in admin and the theater, the central portion of the building, leaving the wings intact. Plans to demolish the remaining structure are already underway

Northampton and Danvers are being demolished this year, plans for tearing down the remnants of Worcester State are being evaluated, and now Taunton will probably be razed as well. Soon there will be no more Kirkbride buildings remaining in the state of Massachusetts  :x

It makes me feel like there should be a HUGE public memorial service for these old beauties as they are laid to rest.....  so utterly devastating.

Oh yes, definitely. Every urban explorer within a 300 mile radius showing up to watch and mourn as these awesome structures meet their sad, violent ends.

I don't think I could bear to watch it Andrew,  but I was thinking of just a memorial service somewhere in a beautiful nature setting.  However,  it's just a dream,   or an emotional need voiced I guess.

Guys - I'm an ocean away, I'll never see these buildings except through the eyes of others. But I see how much it's hurting my friends and truly, truly I'm so sorry for you all...

I'm like Colin,  although I don't have an ocean separating me from these places out east,  I'm a lifetime away in Western Canada.

Finally some people know how I felt as I watched them tear down Dixmont.    I can't explain it but just something about her that just captivated me.  I never got tired of going there to take pictures or to just look around. I feel as though I became part of the place and it became part of me. When I watched them tear her down part of my heart was broken for life there is no fixing it. There are cretin songs on the radio I here that reminds me of different rooms in the old Kirk Bride. I dont know why but they do.
It is so sad to see and here of these places being torn down or destroyed by "some smack in the nuts." Sorry but the only way to say it.
It is a shame that we are just throwing away our history and very few people care.
