Nothing special, for daytime stuff I like to set the f-stop and let the camera handle the exposure, if it doesn't work then bracket or go to manual. It's digital so it doesn't matter much, if I had a medium format I'd be carrying around a light meter!

For night shots it is a good guess for the first shot, they are usually 300-600 seconds depending on the moon brightness and light pollution. They usually stay the same until dawn. It's hard to overexpose long night shots so you have room to play with, always go longer.

Motts, how do you focus at night? I've been to a old cemetery last night and almost all the pics are blurry because autofocus didn't work at such low light so I couldn't focus manually either

here's what happened:

I'm glad that some pictures weren't blurry:

With a flashlight for close up stuff or set the lens at infinity for wider shots.

sirpsychosexy nice shots.

Thanks, Hoursofdarkness, the only problem is that this cemetery is property of the queens palace so there's pretty much security around and there are no lights at all so walking around with a flashlight isn't a very good idea. On another forum someone said that placing a little glowstick at the point where you want to focus at works, so I'll try that. But thanks anyway, I hope my pics are as beautiful as yours one day! The cemetery that I was in is also a highly patrolled spot I found myself hiding behind a gravestone the last time I went. What I do is highlight one of the focus points on my camera that makes it fast an easy. I don't go running around with the flashlight blazing, you could probably even do it with a laser pointer.

Thanks for the comment on the photos.

sirpsychosexy  I love that second shot of yours.... it's beautiful.   And it just so happens it's the second shot of hoursofdarkness that I especially like too.     These are wonderful cemetary shots, thank you both for sharing them!
