Haven't seen that morgue in a while. Loving #2,5, and 6. Great composition, makes me feel like I'm there.

It never fails to surprise me when pictures of abandoned medical facilities are posted that there is so much left behind.   Some of the items in this set appear to be still useful.   Such waste.
In #13 the item on the wall is called a "flusher".   There is a foot pedal to open it.   The bedpan slid into a holder on the door and you took your foot off of the pedal and the door closed.   There was a standard flushing handle on the side and you "flushed" until the bedpan was clean/empty of residue.   The water was hot and the metal bedpans were so nice and warm after this.  Brought back memories.   The last hospital I worked at that still had these was closed in 1977. They were probably judged to be an infection hazard.   The doors didn't close very well and they leaked so not very good for preventing contamination.

I think they steamed the clothes to disinfect them.  Not 100% sure.  Glad to see this place is still doable.

Sorry Mac but that item is definitely for bedpans.   No linen was washed in patient care areas.   We had a linen chute that took the loaded bags directly to the laundry.  Nurses were required to do a lot of things, but I draw the line at laundry.  The linen was washed with very hot tempertures and then ironed to further kill any bacteria and get out all manner of stains.  Still it occasionally came back stained.   Now a days hospitals contract with off site laundry services.   Cheaper as no benefits have to be paid to employees.  Also the bedbath is done with disposable wipes that are warmed in warmers.   A patient gets an individual pack for their bath and the wipes are thrown out.  Much less chance of contaminated linen.  Cheaper and easier to do.   Used to be a real pain to drag the bath basin to the bedside.   We were even taught to soak people's feet in that basin.  (I'm giving away my age here) Trying to stop it from spilling was a real challenge.
Nursing ain't what it used to be.  Thank God.     Sorry I rambled on.........

Yeah they had a separate building on campus that handled the laundry, it was one of the first to be demolished.

Do you think they thought they might reopen and that is why so much furniture and things were left behind?  The furniture looks like something a second hand shop could swoop up and re-sell, or maybe some of the charity places could use it. I know there is some stupid paperwork reason why it is all still there, but, what a waste.  Loved the information about the bedpan flusher thing.  So nice to here from people who used these things.

Cool set, I like 1, 5, 7, and 10.  Damn that poor morgue.  Freaking haters, they couldn't just leave it alone?
