Anyone else going to see this film? It appeals to me on two levels - being a huge horror fan, and of course the abandoned city aspect. I would love to visit Pripyat, which is apparently mostly allowed with tour guides.

Actually, has anyone been and seen the Chernobyl site in Pripyat?

Not sure how good the film will really be, but looks interesting enough.

I'm not going to the theater to see it. The cinematography and overall feel of the film look nice. I just hope the film doesn't inspire a new wave of public interest in Pripyat, Chernobyl, and UE in general.

That and the misinformation about what happened when the meltdown occurred. UE sites around the internet are probably going to get people asking if "omg r there rlly zombies and monsters there?".

I am going to wait until you all see it and write a review here in the forum.  Chernobyl makes me cry.  So sad.

I was looking at a TIME magazine today at CVS, it was a special issue about disasters that shook the world. One of the disasters was Chernobyl, and it said one of the first guys to photograph it in 1986 has gone back too many times and now has radiation poisoning.

I want to see this in the theater.  I'm hoping to catch a weekday matinee showing (better the chances that I'll be alone/nearly alone in the theater, which adds to the creepiness).  I'm a sucker for those Paranormal Activity-style movies...silly or not, I appreciate the concept and always enjoy stuff like that.  This one definitely has the added appeal of exploring an abandoned place and I'm looking forward to it on that level, especially.

However, I don't think I could ever bring myself to visit Pripyat in real life, regardless of whether I had the time and money.  Way too paranoid about radiation exposure even this long after the meltdown.

I am REALLY itching to see this.  Almost enough to pay a theater ticket.  I think I'm going to get it on DVD and watch it on the 50" plasma once it's available.  I've been long fascinated with Chernobyl & Pripyat.  Some of the scenes in the trailer I can identify from my game set in Pripyat.

Saw the movie.  As a horror flick, it was just "meh."  But it was still worth the ticket price just to see all the abandoned buildings...a little Virtual UrbExing when I basically never have the chance to do the real thing anymore.  Smiley
