Dont Let Your Kids Play With Matches!

Research revealed that the fire started in an upstairs closet shortly before 6 PM Sept. 2011. Im glad to report that everyone got out ok, or i wouldnt have the heart to show these. This was a residence and business. The first floor was a Boutique and Salon for hair and nails. They also sold purses, clothes and wigs. The fire investigation showed that one of the children was playing with matches and a lighter. This is the sad result.... a little image heavy.

Reminds me so much of when my place burned few days under a year ago.
The remains, of what was left and just looking at everything and the memories that each thing that was not totally destroyed just brought in more memories of all the things that did not survive.
No person as well was hurt in my fire, but we did loose our beloved cats.

Soooo Sorry for you loss wjbodin. These photos make me very sad for this family also. Its such a shame when this fire could have been prevented.
Not trying to throw salt into the wound of those who have lost their homes to fire at all. I want everyone to BE SAFE. In this instance cigarettes, lighters, and no child supervision was a bad combination. It really tugs at your heart to see the devastation.

This is a very thought provoking set LL. It definitely demonstrates what the lack of supervision and child teaching can do! But everyone got out of the house and the firefighters all went home at the end of their shift, so that is the good thing. I know this set will be hard for anyone who lost a home. Fire has dealt its blow in so many of the subjects of the posts on this site. How odd to find the fire truck toy there. Apparently they chose not to recover any of the items. I am glad you posted it. It brings to the front a reality that many of us have never had to face. A reality that could happen to any of us at any time. Material possessions can be replace. A life cannot.
Outstanding LL. Outstanding.

In looking at these, I do not see smoke detectors in the places where you would normally find them - stairwells, outside bedrooms, etc.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your kitty friends. But I am relieved to learn the rest of your family survived.

Wow! That is just devastating! I like the irony of #11, but #26 is my favorite! I really like the b&w shots, I think its fitting with the subject matter. Great job!!!!

Even though the house was left standing, this place is a total loss. It doesn't take a huge inferno to destroy a home and contents. Heat, water, smoke, and flame all do a number on the interior. Plus, the firefighters must penetrate and rip the walls and ceiling open to make sure the fire is out. Looks like the FD made a good stop on this one. These folks are lucky to be alive. This looks like the perfect little carbon monoxide silent creeper that kills whole families in their sleep. Sobering set LL. Thanks for posting these.

What a shame, a very nice old house. I love your first photo, that bowed in wall is crazy!

Great Comments Toot, A-Girl, K911, & Arntz. Thanks so much for checking out my pics.
& Toot: Nice Catch! Thats one of the things i noticed ...No Fire Detectors! Didnt see one anywhere when i was there.
& Kscems911: Yes, i agree! If this would of taken place when everyone was asleep...how awful this could of been.

Great set, LL! You've captured the sadness of the scene, especially the charred toys; They remind us that a family lived here, and lost their home. Looks like it was a pretty nice place at one time. #1 makes me ask myself: "Am I hallucinating again?!?" I like the door & window in #19, and how 'bout those green chairs in #14! The wig-heads in #2 look very creepy, and with the curtains looking like they're being blown by the wind - sort of sets the mood! Thx for sharing with us.

Wow, what a cool old building! Thnx for posting! I see a couple of crispy torsos there, so not everyone got out. I guess every business loses a customer or two once in a while. Very nice pool table but kind of hard to take a shot on that one end.
So, fire safety huh? Yeah, Smokey the bear would have something to say here. Maybe sometimes folks forget to have simple talks with their kids? And there may had been adults in the house but just not in the room where the kids were messing around. Reminds me to check my smoke detectors. I keep FIRE EXTINGUISHERS in my house too! I hope I never need them, but that's something that may had helped save this house in this situation.

Fantastic shots, LucieLou! Fire can certainly make a place look sad and forlorn.
