I just visited another site of photos of Chernobyl and the surrounding village.  The buildings are all rotted and everything was left behind, and yes, it is creepy.  However, the buildings are not that old and very industrial looking so it does not fill me with the same sadness for the loss of the buildings.  It does fill me with great sadness for the loss of life.  The site also referred people to the book, "Voices of Chernobyl", I thing that is the title.  I then read some excerpts from the book and started to cry.  It was so horrible.  To hear the stories of the real people who were there and the horrible deaths from radiation poisoning just tears me up.  It is even sad to read about the people who stayed, but did not get sick.  They speak of terrible lonliness and the loss of family and pets, etc.  Tragic.  villageofjoy.com was the website.  I am sure there are plenty of others.

Chernobyl has facinated me for years. I've looked at dozens of sites and watched lots of documentaries of it. It definitely is a tragedy. My favorite photographer of Chernobyl is Elena Filatova. Check out her site at www.kiddofspeed.com
