A while back I was put on 25mg Amitriptyline for my migraines... once I dropped the stress and moved to the mountains I weened myself off them and had been fine for months. The entire time I was on them I slept great and very few migraines and was very easy to get off of them and no side effects other than making me very relaxed.

I recently moved back to my hometown (not entirely mentally enjoyable) and have had some home life struggles as well with my kid so I went to my dr and told them about my depression and anger issues. I will cry at the drop of a hat, happy or sad situations but once I start crying they feel sad.  And I get very angry very quickly.  Could be something very trivial and I will feel it through my body for about an hour.  Doc put me on 50mg of Zoloft. I get daily headaches, I have become more aggitated and nervous than before and I can't sleep very well.

So I called my doc and told her what was going on and that I did not like this ride and wanted to get off. So she asked me to taper off with 25 mg a day for 5 days and then she prescribed me Celexa to try next.  I start that one on Saturday. My daughter and a good friend of mine are both of Celexa.  My friend raves about it but my daughter just started it and has started having mood swings, though we are not sure if it is a side effect of the Celexa or not yet.  She's been on them for about a month now.

So... what I am looking for is guidance on this rollercoaster ride through meds and want to know anyone's thoughts on having dealt with or administered these drugs before.

Quick question on this.... I had asked the doc if I coul dbe put back on the Amitriptyline but has not done so... it's like she's against it for some reason.  Would anyone understand as to why she would be against it?  I got zero side effects and it helped me greatly and I was able to taper off quite nicely.  I do not see a harm in this drug.  Am I missing something?

amytriptaline is habit forming and the withdrawal from it can cause you to have worse migraines.  You also will have to wash out on the Celexa before you can go back on the amytriptaline.  Celexa has a very long half life in the body though so you would need to be off it quite a while before you can go back on the amytriptaline if memory serves me right.  I might try looking for someone who is a PharmD (your local pharmacy may ahve one) to discussion medication options and get a second opinion.  They should be able to help you better understand what is going on with the medications and make the correct switch to something that will help you..  You might also try some alternative medical treatments by looking for someone who does holistic medicine.  I myself am not a huge fan but ti does work for some people.

I've been on the Amytriptolene before and had ZERO issue going off it, no withdrawls whatsoever.  I had ZERo side effects hwile on it as well. No migraines after either.. that's why I am wanting to go back on them.

TYPUCALLY I am all about herbal medicaines and holistic medicaine... I may have to delve back into that with this.

Thanks for the input!

Hi Earthbound misfit
I tried Celexa a while back and had to abruptly stop taking it as it made me very suicidal. Zoloft will cause headaches at first but they do go away after a while. Amitryptaline did nothing for me at all. So far my best mix is Prozac and Zoloft. The headaches are there cause the both of them cause headache but I know they'll improve soon. My issue now is sleeping...as in I can't. Sad
Take a look at a site called PsychCentral. They have info on all kinds of meds. Hope it helps.

It is not really considered a diagnostic referral site, but I always suggest people check out the erowid website (www.erowid.org).  They have a lot of information on medications and do a much better job of talking about off label uses of medication than other sites.  you need to take what's said with a grain of salt as much of it is self described experience, but they do have good information on almost every medication and drug out there and some of the few descriptions of street drug and prescribed drug interactions I have seen anywhere on the net ( not that I condone street drugs or suggest that any of you are using them, just saying the knowledge base is pretty big).

I will check out the site here in a sec for sure. Thanks for the info you've been great!

I am now, however, back on my beloved Amytriptolene.  They started me out on the 25 mg (as I was taking before) and I feel sooooooo much better.  My shoulders are no longer glued to my ears and my back and neck no longer hurt.  Now I DO still have the emotions to deal with and the Doc just upped me to 50 mgs yesterday... so we'll see what that does.  But even if it does not do anything with my emotions I am VERY happy to no longer have the stress PAIN that comes with my anxiety and depression. Other than that I have had zero side effects.

Amytriptyline has been used as an adjunct in pain management for years, and people usually do well with it.  They seem to sleep better too.  Best of luck.
