2nd EPIC Gary trip in a row Part 2 (Gary Fire Department edition)

On our way back into town, Cyber and I found a whole bunch of abandoned Gary Fire Department rigs just left to rot behind this building...it was only due to her sharp eyes that we were able to spot it as we drove past, it turned out to be just great!
1. 3 Brothers
2. Gary Fire Department Ambulance 701, an Advanced Life Support Ambulance from Station 7 that was in a collision some time in 2007 or 2008 that has since been left to rot outside of a building in downtown Gary.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7. Gary Fire Department Engine 891, a Pumper from Station 3 that has been abandoned in Downtown Gary.
8.
9.
10.
11. Gary Fire Department Engine 9, a Pumper from Station 9 that has been abandoned in Downtown Gary.
12.
13.
14.
Now on to our next destination,The abandoned Gary Fire Department Station #11 located at 8010 Indian Boundary, Gary IN. This station was abandoned in 2008 when it was severely damaged by floods. It was slated to reopen in 2009, but as usual, the City of Gary did not have the funds to fix it. It is now sitting empty on the East side of Gary and has been stripped of it's former glory, but remnants still remain

The only thing still "functioning" there was an annoyingly peeping smoke detector in its final days before the battery conks out.
Cool destination though.

If you follow any of the firefighting channels on youtube the GFD has got to be one of the busiest. I am starting to think there are only three houses left standing in Gary. This set is awesome. A city so strapped for money and they abandon engines like they were ten dollar toys.

Very cool, but is it really necessary to post the street address of the fire station?
Gary seems to have a lot in common with Detroit in that it makes its own bad situation much worse with stupid decisions like abandoning perfectly good ambulances and fire trucks.

Wonder why Fire Departments always have red paint/ color? Hmmm..seems more calmer colors would be needed.
Loved seeing these, thank you for sharing.

Most have red, but I have seen a lot of white, green and even yellow. Yesterday at work we had pink ones in front of the hospital - but those are pink on purpose lol. Gotta say I prefer the red.

I should of typed what I was thinking in my head.. lol. Sorry.
I wonder why fire stations, not so much the trucks, have red in them? Our local one has a lot of red paint, walls, like this one does. It is red and white mostly. You would think the fireman need a more relaxing color.
We have a pink ambulance in our town too.

Sweet set!! It's always sad to visit a FD bone yard. That ambulance was manufactured by Wheeled Coach Industries in Orlando, FL. It's a class I rig on a Ford F350 chassis sporting a Whelen strobe light bar on the front. Strobes lights have been phased out in favor for new LED lights on emergency vehicles. This ambulance has a "walk-through" feature that enables access from the cab to the patient compartment. You can tell this is an outdated rig by looking at the floor in the patient compartment. Where the floor meets the squad bench and opposite floor is a seam. Now the floors curve up to make a giant "catch basin" so the body fluids won't seep in and grow funky. Sad to see it being picked clean. The fire engine on the left is a Pierce Pumper with a 1250 GPM pump and Federal Q sirens on the front. The one on the right looks like a Seagrave with a Mars 888 light and a Federal Q siren on the front. The fire station sure has deteriorated in just three short years. The echos of the past can be heard if you listen. Great set.

Thanks a bunch for the comments and the words of encouragement for Paramedic school, we just started getting into the meat and potatoes of ALS (Pharmacology, Pathophys, starting IV's, and all the fun stuff like that).
I looked at the Federal KKK-A-1822E Ambulance Specifications and I believe this Ambo would be classified as a Class III, it is a Cutaway Van/Truck with a walkthrough from the px compartment to the cab, and an integrated modular Ambulance body.
Also, this rig did have LED lights on the back and sides, it was just the lightbar in the front that was strobes...I know because one of the LED lights was popped out from the outside and was stored in one of the cabinets
It's not THAT old, the rig I have been riding in is an older, and a LOT more uncomfortable. This one made me kind of jealous
I agree, seeing a rig like this picked clean and then abandoned was pretty disappointing, it was very weird sitting in the EMSP's chair and not having a cot knocking you in the shin every time you moved
Thank you all for the great comments guys!
