The Pathologist said that a CAT scan would have picked it up and that my father's behavior could have been controlled with a combination of medications and electro-shock theropy. His tone of voice was very matter of fact.
Is that true?
Nope, and certainly not 16 years ago. Pedophilia is still extremely difficult to treat and has an extremely high rate of recidivism (repeat crimes). I haven't heard yet of anyone being able to find a specific site in the brain associated with pedophilia. All the pathologist would have been able to do is to identify a lesion in the frontal lobe area and make speculations after that.
I wouldn't worry about pedophilia striking you out of the blue if you aren't already one. It is not something that hits you in adulthood if you didn't have tendencies earlier. Also it's important to remember that the great, great, great majority of people who were sexually molested do NOT become pedophiles. So even though it is true that the majority of child sex offenders were abused when they were children, the majority of children who were abused do not grow up to become abusers themselves.
