Pennhurst, change of .. er.. plans?

Hey all - Saw a thread (that was last posted in less than a month ago!) about some 'pennhurstisalive' website. I can't pull it up, but find it odd.. and the $1000 fine mention a little amusing.
Over this weekend, while up in that area, a friend and I decided to visit the site. We stopped by at around 8pm on Saturday night, drove right up front past the old emergency services building that looks like it's used for maintenance now.
There was a gate in the road, locked, and on either side of the gate were signs. I can't recall what they said (haven't gone through my pics yet), but it was some "organic trash" company. Not knowing about the trespass fine, my friend wanted to walk around the complex, I was hesitant (there WAS an active maintenance facility less than 50 feet from where we parked, and it was still dusk out) but we ended up going around two of the halls closes to the back road, a ways in front of the old Admin building.
What I saw horrified me - between the halls, they were dumping mulch, tree-limbs and other "organic" matter. Each of the halls had three marked lines on the outside - one at 12-feet, one at 20-feet, and one at 25-feet. I had a dreaded feeling they were planning on burying the buildings. My companion disagreed with me, but..
Since no mention's been made of it yet on here, it means it was recently opened/started. Considering how much is there already, there may not be much time left.
I
seriously
hope I'm misunderstanding something - tell me I went to the wrong abandoned hospital, or this is a common occurrence in June every year... or something.
Either case, about 15-20 minutes we walked around two of the halls, got back to the car and headed out. Noone stopped us.. or saw us, as much as I know.

As a side note, had a question for the history folks..
On an old map of the area, I have a point on a map just north of the hospital labeled "Pennhurst Station". It is, obvioualy along the tracks - was wondering if anyone knew if there had ever been an actual station there?

You mean this thread:

I did a quick search for Pennhurst, and it was the second thread that came up (right after this thread).

Yup, yup - that's the thread. I mistyped. I meant to say that I can't pull up that "haunted house" website. (Not the thread..!

The drummer of my band works for the company that is doing all of the mulching and tree removal on the property. As you probably saw from the link, they're turning it into the next "Bates Motel" haunted house/mockery of the mentally retarded. The plans are still up in the air but almost every building will probably be demolished there. Trust me, the property owner really had no idea what he was getting himself into when he bought that land.
You guys are incredibly lucky that you didn't get caught, especially from where you parked. Security's up there almost 24/7 now, or at least somebody that's working. The $1000 fine is also no joke. It's very real.

Wow. Are they still tearing down trees then? One of the signs out front said that there were "hours", like 9am to 6pm Monday-thru-Friday. So they must be selling off the mulch they're getting from the tearing of trees. A shame.
The
link
is down and I haven't been able to see it yet - I'm hoping that means they got shut down and won't be continuing with that! Sheesh!
I'm guessing we were lucky - my friend was more concerned with the "military" place up top of the hill behind the place, I was more worried about the maintenance garage 50 feet up the street.
Because of light and we had to get back to Philly that night we didn't stay longer. Probably served us well in the end for that. Whew.

You got it right about the mulch. That's the company my buddy works for. They drag trees outta there daily and mulch them. That's the plan for now until this idiotic haunted house gets started. After that, it's anyone's guess as to what's gonna happen.

I found my picture - it's "Penn Organic". Hours at the site are listed as Mon - Sat 7am to 6pm.
I wonder if that means I show up as a "potential customer" I can walk around the place getting pictures?

Wow, the music on that site is annoying.
Interesting tho, that looks much more like long-term plans to me. Wonder if that other site (the haunted house -esqe? one) has been canceled then.
Two things strike me as interesting on that map:
First, the area where the piles are is supposed to be "straw covered" (I'm assuming the ground..) When we were there, the ground nor the piles were covered in straw.
Then, the "filter-fitted" drains. I guess storm drains had to be there - they wouldn't be purposefully draining into any steam tunnels or the like, would they? Huh.

I'm interested in the lines on the building, did you take any pics of them? As for storm drains they are not going into the tunnels they were there way before the property was bought. I have no idea where they let out though most likely into the river that's close by.

I didn't, but my friend with me did:
In the bottom right of the picture you can see a white sign on the building - that has the colors and their heights. Each area the compost was in (only two open areas when we were there) the marks were on both buildings that bordered the area.

Now that I'm under 3 hours away, I so want to visit the place - even if that means doing it at night and risking a $1k fine.
