Mr. Motts? What is your favorite abandonment that you explored of them all?

Anyone else have a favorite that sticks out for them and why?

This place is probably #1. But I haven't even gotten to posting the other 4 out of my top 5 Wink

I love ancient asylums that have been abandoned for a long time, they are least likely to have been renovated with drop ceilings and the like. Some are full of vintage medical equipment, have vibrant leaded paint peeling off the walls, and together with incredible architecture, a sordid past, and some tight security, they make the whole place thrilling and wonderful to photograph

I get what you're saying Motts,   I just went through that gallery again and I can see exactly what you love about this one.     No pics of the outside of her, though??

Great question,  Weas!

I will always love Danvers the most.  Danverw will have my heart forever.  And I could care less what Avalon Bay is replacing.  They could have restored the whole site.

meh, it's not a super secret place but it's very special to me, so I'd like to see it not get trashed and many places can be easily recognizable from the outside Wink

Ahhh..... good thinking Motts.   It looked so free of vandalism and tagging on the inside,  which made it all the more beautiful.

Well,  may she forever stay that way.

The pictures I've seen of Dixmont gave me that impression.  Since it closed in '84, it might have been renovated, but I saw pics of it taken shortly before it was demolished.  It sure looked ancient to me!

The architectural design of Danvers makes it a favorite for me.

Philadelphia State Hospital/Byberry is my favorite location and place to go to. I also like Buffalo and Danvers.

My hands down Favorite is Danvers Srare Hospital.  The ironic thing is that if UE had been in vogue during the time Danvers was open, at the time near closing.  You could have had the Kirkbride building to yourselves.  Nearly unimpeded  acsess.  Security was a joke then.  Especially at night.  The security cruiser had a loose fan belt you could hear for miles.  About the only person you'd meet in the tunnels would have been me.

My favorite has got to be Danvers. It was what really got me into the whole idea of abandoned asylums and urban exploration, and although I've researched other institutions, Danvers still has the most hold over me. Something about the buildings, and jeez...I don't know. I can't really explain it; I don't even have any personal ties to the hospital or anything, I didn't even know it existed up until about a year ago. But still...it just grabs me, and won't let go.

A great question indeed! I have a couple. I LOVED Danvers for the architecture, like most of us. But I have a warm fuzzy spot for any extremely large sites, like the Studebaker factory, and the power plant..... Cheesy
