is it normal?? i was born 3 months premature and weighed 68 pounds for YEARS and i started having seizures in 5th grade and i gained more than 2 times my body weight in less than 2 months is this a normal reaction?? thanks to the damn seizure meds i'm a fat guy now lol

    yes Todd, some preemies end up with feeding tubes if they aren't gaining weight. But as they grow older and can coordinate chewing and swallowing, things improve, Did they put you on steroids after your seizure? that will pack on the pounds.

 :)Tegretol (carbmazepine) is an anti seizure med, shouldn't have caused that weuight gain.  But if they gave you pediapred, prednisalone, dexamethasone by mouth or Acthar gel in shot form, you moght have bulked up.  Ready for this littlefactoid ?  We give sc Acth or acthar gel to kids with infantile spasm. It is a drug that has been around forever, but it still costs....15000, that is fifteen thousand dollars per vial.. 5ml's. Steroid drugs, acth is a Cortical steroid, has just a little different action than the oral meds, but weight gain is still a side effect

i didnt start having seizures til fifth grade and that is when i gained more than twice my body weight in less than 2 months and the only med i was on was tegretol

You could have had a hormone imbalance around the same time you started going through puberty. I don't know about the seizures but those kinds of things tend to cause lots of weight gain when you start to really "grow up." Pretty sure I blew up around 10-13 years old because I have a hormone disorder.

A lot of folks can have a hormone imbalance and not realize it, because they don't feel all that bad.

Navi may br on to something, If you wre in fifth grade, that would make you 11 or 12. That's usually about the time the testosterone kicks in, and that may be what made made you gain the weight. I almost said, "made you get bigger" .........PHEW!

bwhahaha penis jokes lol idk but as soon as i stopped taking the tegretol and it was out of my system i stopped gaining weight. and i also kept getting a rash while on Tegretol that i much later found out was Stephens-Johnsons syndrome
