Augustine please don't give up on donating.  I have a child with a chronic disease and if there ever comes a time when she is in need of blood she'll get it because of kind hearted people like you.

I have a problem with getting blood drawn too.  My veins are very small and it takes a good nurse or tech who really knows what their doing. I always end up bruised though.  If you go again ask them if they would use a butterfly needle.  It is shaped like a butterfly and is very tiny, once that is injected into the vein they then attach the drawing needle to it.  So the big needle never touches you.

Kadee, the butterfly needle sounds like an excellent idea.  I was severely asthmatic as a kid and had to have blood work done all time (hence my hatred of needles!), and I remember the butterfly needles being the only ones that didn't hurt.  I hope they'd be willing to use one.  Sometimes things are kind of backward down where I live.  But it's still worth asking.  At the very least I can warn the nurses to be extremely careful next time.
