Ok, YES...City Methodist Chuch in Gary, IN is WIDELY known amongst the UE community.

HOWEVER...I'm really aggravated that not only is the NAME fully listed on IMDb but the actual intersection it's located at as well!

It is one of many Chicagoland locations being used for the remake (BOO!) of "A Nightmare On Elm Street" due to be released in 2010.  They could have simply said "an abandoned church" and left it at that...STUPID!  Even if it is widely-known.

I hear what you say. Obviously the film industry and the people running the IMDb don't know of or have the same sensibilities as most of the Urbex community.

Having said that, I googled the phrase city methodist church gary IN and got lots of results. Helpfully, Google Maps took me right to the location...

I wonder if any more publicity for this rather special location could harm it further or possibly push more folks into lobbying for it's presevation?

The only plan proposed is to demo much of it and turn the cathedral into an urban ruins garden...and the city of Gary doesn't even have the funds to do that.

More likely, it will do more harm than good.

I imagine, given that it's slated to be demo'd, the people on IMDb figured it wasn't that big a deal.  Personally, I don't see the point in posting any shooting locations until the shoot is done, it will just draw a crowd of gawkers and make it harder to shoot...

What could be the real headache maker is that it was front page in both local papers. I'd say any type of preservation is a long dead plan. For a while it was at least once a year they'd announce the "ruins garden" plan. The city would get money for it, then said cash would do a disappearing act. The last time it was mentioned several contractors said they didn't want anything to do with it due to the condition of what's left of the church. I could go on for an hour about the stupidity that goes on in Gary and the city "leaders"!

Surprised there was no new topic for the latest thing that put Gary in the national news, aside from homicide rates or corruption. The abandoned funeral home with 4 bodies left in it for about 5 years plus one cremated soul.

It's Gary- it is a festering hole of corruption and neglect. I was up there last October. There are some great sites but it's too depressing.

Gary is a horrid place...  We are about an hour and half away from it here around Chicago, and used to go there for rocky horror, lol.  It is horrific at night, so scary, and dirty and bleh.... i know i am spoiled by Chicago and burbs, but still, its a hell hole...

Had family from Copone's Cicero outside Chicago.  My grandfather wouldn't go to Gary if you paid him -- then or now.  In fact, he would outright laugh at Ron Howard's little cheery "Gary, Indiana" ditty from the Music Man.

As for IMDB, a lot of areas are edited by users, not IMDB themselves.  I think that's one of them.  I know that there are errors in other filming locations, such as High Society.
