Kind of makes you wonder why these were not taken with when the hospitals closed. I would think the patient would still need them. The movable fireplace is bizarre. Awesome photos - as always - you are a master at your work!

There is something incredibly heart-wrenching about the second picture... the forgotten artificial appendage that once held the dreams of a child's mobility.

the fourth one is an actual brace I had to use ones very similar years ago. They are actually pretty comfortable considering its hard plastic.

Loving the legs!!

Really nifty. . . It makes their previous owners seem strangely endearing, like dolls. . .

The fireplace paired with the cast led to bad mental processes, though.

I assume these devices are something of a rareity to find in abandonments? Or had they simply not made their way into the galleries thus far?

Both - all the photos except one of the braces haven't been posted yet, and I think these objects are somewhat rare finds.

Incredibly haunting images.

After the polio epidemic, there were tons of these around. As the technology of prosthetics improved, these "dinosaurs" were left behind.
