its a sluice, i've not seen one quite like it but we've got loads like this in the uk, along side modern macerators

it looks like a theater table, with rails for clamps etc

as claudia has pointed out ,the use penicillin since ww2 has been wide spread ......so why was it still there?

just looks like a larger bore suction tube.....albeit with a massive attachment!
