Track Entrance

Sketch

I'm glad you didn't know how to fix the tungsten lighting when you took these. They take on a totally different aspect, and seem harsh and unreal. These could have been taken in the bleachers on Mars!

Outdoor Pool

Sketch

Who's up for a swim? :D
I wish they still made things as beautiful as this. You never see this kind of attention to detail anymore...

Atrium of Death

Sketch

Dig the title, sounds like something from a horror movie. Can you hear the promo in your head? "Come visit the Atrium... of DEATH!"

Any idea why these died while the carpet decided to grow?

Wing

Sketch

Hey, what's with all the butt hating? My butts not ugly...

Those buildings, however, are hideous! They look like something that Wright would create in his nightmares!

Honeymoon Suite Tub

Sketch

Rinse it out real quick, and it's as good as new! Anyone care to join me? I am a doctor, so it's for medical purposes of course... :D (Like that Lynne?)

Entrance to Old Wing

Sketch

It is possible that it was simply forgotten in the rush for other, more important things. For instance, the dining room was still full of tables and chairs. Maybe they just decided what was really important to take, and what could be left...

Invasion

Sketch

Looks like the tree just wanted to check the room out...

The Carpet Is Alive!

Sketch

If our entire civilization were wiped out today, people of tomorrow would be confused over the purpose of such a strange light fixture... Why is it right above the sink? :D
Seriously, I doubt that much of our society would last a hundred years if it went unmaintained. We build cheap, disposable products, that aren't meant to last a long time, so I doubt that they would find much left from us other than a few buildings here and there, and maybe a few items that would be indecypherable to them.

Tunnel

Sketch

Any idea why that wire is running across like that? It looks like the kind of wire I use for electric fences, but I can't see it being very useful at that height...

Angles

Sketch

Motts, your comment makes this picture even better! The crawlspace of the city...

Drawn Shades of Yellow

Sketch

I'm 23, but my step father who is giong to be 50 soon turned me on to this site. I think the themes presented here (loneliness, abandonment, etc) are things that can be shared across any age range. I'm looking forward to the book, but I can't imagine seeing these pictures without the great viewer commentary (even the crappy "OMG a gohst!" commentary). And yes, that typo was on purpose.

Isolation Ward

Sketch

If I were a ghost I'd repaint the walls... Ugh, pink!

Why would this site be any more or less haunted than any other site? Any building that has had people pass through it is haunted by their memory, but it takes a good photographer like Motts to show it to us...

Gondola Wheel

Sketch

Yumm... People burgers! Can I get mine with cheese and no mustard?

It would be too easy to pick on your spelling and grammar, so instead I'll go after your message. Do you have proof of how these people were treated? I'm not denying that there were some abuses, but not as many as you would like us to believe, and I have yet to see proof that people in any US institution were experimented on "like mice". While new techniques in treatment were certainly tested, it wasn't out of cruelty, and many people benefitted from finding out what worked and what didn't work when treating mentally ill patients. Again, do you have any proof that people were experimented on outside of treatments? Any proof at all?

Ward

Sketch

Then again, it could just be a very well done picture of an empty hallway in an abandoned building... but that isn't as romantic.

Foot of the Coffin

Sketch

To those who are freaked out by the empty casket:
Would you rather be looking at an occupied one? I've seen way too many of both, adn I prefer an empty one over a full one any day...

Bed of Straw

Sketch

Max: That's only Bram Stoker's version. None of the other vampire mythos include the restrictions that he did (running water, no reflection, native soil). He only did that because he had written himself into a corner, and needed a way to kill his super creatures off...

Bed of Straw

Sketch

Probably because it was a cheap liner. They didn't want to spend a lot of money on a funeral for someone who had no family or whose family didn't care enough to attend, so they cut corners while still being respectful. I imagine the occupants wouldn't know the difference anyway...

High Chair

Sketch

Oh for the love of god, why did you make me watch that video again? I was almost sleeping at night again! Proof that there ARE worse things than sitz baths out there... ~shuddershuddershudder~ ~hiding under kitchen sink~

Purple And Green

Sketch

S3an: Just a guess, but I bet it reads something like "I'm a stupid idiot with nothing better to do than destroy history with my spray can." Or something like that...

Location: Isolation Hospital  Gallery: Flooded

Long Hallway

Sketch

On an extreme close up it looks like it is just a combination of the light and the peeling paint.

Ok, I definitely need one of these. Can you imagine the fun I would have!

Amsco Urology Table

So where does one go about getting one of these... for... research! I'm a doctor! :D Really, I just want one to put next to my sitz bath as a conversation piece...

No pictures of the "good stuff" though... :(

Exercise Room

Why would you want to perform an exorcism here? It doesn't make any sense... Not that I think it would work anyway. How would you feel if you were told by strangers to get out of your house and go toward the light? I'd be pretty pissed off!
