There's the corridor we run across to jump from building to building.

I've looked down there from up top.
Never ventured into the depths, though.

The connector is where my friends & I have ran across to get into 7 from the grouped buildings.
Scary cause you need to run quickly so cops won't spot you.

Just recently my friend & I were trying for about an hour to find the connection into this building.
It seemed as if it simply did not exist or like the building was placing tricks on us & didn't want us to find it :P
I've seen photos of the inside, such as this, so I knew it had to be possible.
Better luck next time, I guess!

Isn't this a strange room to walk into?

Upper Room

MariaKLZ

Surprisingly, it actually doesn't smell.
It is quite disgusting though! And it's all below & hole in the ceiling, so I often wonder if all those droppings were stored up in between the walls.
Gross to think of!

There's a mattress & a chair up there now, along with a pair of pants & a stuffed animal snowman.
Weird combination if you ask me :P

Also, I'd read a few years back that the original morgue had been elsewhere & was converted into a break room for staff.
I wonder who got that idea!
I would be a little upset if the place that I was able to sit, relax, eat &/or have some coffee was once where the morgue was located :/

Cat in File Cabinet

MariaKLZ

Do you know outside the building where the thousands of empty cat food cans & all the flies are?

Well, around the right side of the patio (where there is sometimes a cat bed or cardboard box), there is a crawl space.
My friend & I were trying to find new ways in & checked in there with lights, when I was struck by a horrible smell...
I looked down & there was a cushion & a stiff, furry animal of some sort.
It didn't really look like a cat, but I couldn't tell.
It's nose looked long, as if it were a possum.
I do remember seeing a cat (a very mean one) around there on at least 2 different occasions.
Hopefully that wasn't it!

Maybe these bones are the remains of one of the cats that used to be fed outside the building?

^^^ The SAME thing happened to a different friend & I when I took him there on his first trip.
We both looked at each other & just went, "WOW."
We checked a little & it appeared that the room it came from had no windows (except for small ones toward the ceiling) & there wasn't any wind.
It was certainly odd.
We left shortly after because my friend was getting nervous over all the noises (that he was probably making since he walks very heavily), haha! :P

Skyline and 93

And Scott, yes, there is a way.

When I went there, my friend & I met these 2 boys & they brought us all around.
We walked up to the top of 7 where the flights of stairs ended.
Then the stairs start getting a bit sketchy.

My friend & I were both nervous, with shaky, sweaty palms when climbing up the tiny metal stairs going to the roof, but it is doable.

When up there, the view is beautiful, but you are right next to the cube.

When inside the cube, it is almost completely dark, except for light coming in from the one door that swings open & closed in the wind, & leads out onto the roof.
It's very eerie & you hear noises coming from down in the lower levels of the building (because of all the open windows & constantly swinging doors).

You can get on top of the cube...
BUT there are no stairs like you encountered before.

Instead, there is a metal ladder attached to the wall, which you have to jump to grab a hold of (if you're short like me) & then hoist yourself up (if you're very strong). The ladder is rusty & very scary looking.
When you climb, you need to pull yourself straight up vertically, there is no incline.
Then, abruptly, the ladder runs out of rungs.
You need to let go with one hand & let yourself back a bit to grab on to another ladder to the left of you & almost jump onto it (with risk of falling a good 15 feet down onto a floor who's stability is questionable).
Once you're finished climbing that part of the ladder, you reach metal grating that is suspended above the floor high up.
Then, you must jump, grab on & hoist yourself up onto another ladder (which shakes, swings forward & makes you climb on a backward angle) in order to go through a little open hatch in the roof, which brings you to the top of the cube.

Now, all this is in fact how you get onto the top of the cube.
BUT I myself did NOT take part in traveling up to the top along with the boys, nor did my friend.
I was extremely nervous watching them do this & remember every part of what they needed to do in order to get up there because I was contemplating it.
After watching them, I decided I really didn't want to take that risk.
The 2 of them had done it before, were agile/strong, experienced & relaxed when going about it.
My friend & I, on the other hand, are two tiny, short, weak, nervous, 20 year old 'city girls', with bags, cameras, jackets, etc.
We both watched, held our flashes down on our cameras so they could see where they were going & kept yelling at them to please be very careful as they did all these insane maneuvers in midair (& practically in the dark).

The 2 of them kept egging us on to come with them to the top & assured us that the view was amazing & totally worth it...
But me, being a complete nervous klutz, knew I'd probably fall to my death & did not chance it.

The whole process of getting up there was very scary, even just to watch. Literally just remembering it & typing it all got my adrenaline pumping & my hands sweaty.

It was very dangerous (being in the buildings at all is dangerous on the best of days) & the ladders were extremely rusty & deteriorating (not to mention, they were covered in bird droppings).

I would not recommend going to the top of the cube.
But again, as I saw, it is possible.

Courtyard

My friend & I went here back in April.
We were wrapping up our 7 hour trip through a bunch of other buildings & decided to walk around the Quad.
When doing so we heard whistles coming from inside one of the buildings. I whistled back & no sooner did we spot hands sticking out the windows far above our heads waving down at us. These phantom explorers then started to throw streamers from the windows & let them blow in the wind. The 2 boys eventually came down, introduced themselves & took us around the buildings. They are from the area & younger, so they have a lot of free time to constantly explore.
Eventually after going throughout the buildings, connections, the tops of the buildings, & snapped countless photographs, etc., we spotted a cop.
When trying to escape from view, we had to go the same way we came & run across the top of the connector (that is pictured) & my friend, who was wearing a bright blue shirt, got spotted :(
When we got out, we foolishly thought we'd lost the cop & stood around discussing the amazing beauty of the buildings, thanking the boys & trading emails... When the cop who swore he was terminator pulled up.
The 2 boys got off because they were underage & without ID. My friend & I on the other hand, drove in from Queens. My car was parked all the way down by the river (we'd walked quite a bit that day), so I made up an elaborate story that our IDs were in my car. The cop refused to let us go, or to even give us a lift to my car in order to write us up, but he had no trouble following alongside us, doing 3 miles per hour, as we took our sweet time trying to discuss quietly what we were going to say to get ourselves out of a summons, & also as we walked through wooded areas (where he couldn't drive) in order to snatch our wallets from our bags & shove them in our sleeves, as well as take all the memory cards from all 3 of our cameras & put them in our bras, all without being seen. All of a sudden, when back on the road & confident that the cop now really wouldn't be able to really prove anything against us that would be too incriminating (aside from the fact that he spotted my friend on the roof), a driver came speeding down the wrong side of the road right across from where we were walking.
Needless to say, the cop went after him & let us 2 little girls go. I guess the ticket he could give a guy for speeding & for driving on the wrong side of a publicly used roadway was a lot greater than a trespassing summons. But he didn't have any trouble threatening & harassing us before we made our way (quickly) back to my car.
That was the first time in all the years I've been going to Kings Park that I ever had any real trouble with a cop. We haven't been back yet, but we have been making plans with the 2 boys for the near future.
Always fun & exciting times at KPPC! :)
