I meant the machines all had unique adresses like an IP address.

Teletype

Telex/Teletypes were the forerunners of the fax machine. they were still in use into the 90's because some countries did not recognize faxes as legal documents but the telex was because it had a unique code much like an IP address.

I used to go to shows here in the 1960's. My mother worked at this hospital for years. The patients would put on variety shows and here were movie nights The whole place was a city unto itself. Had its own power plant, farm, bakery, wood shops, etc. Not the best of all worlds but now the chronically mentally ill live on the streets.

I'd like to thank who ever took this pics, both my parents worked at pilgrim, mom was in bldg 9, then went to 10 before she retired, dad was in maintaince at edgewood, then went to pilgrim when edgewood closed, he worked his way up to Locksmith, and took a promotion to a unit on staten island. I remember going with dad to pick mom up at work, hell some of the patients remember me as a baby. Its sad some of the things that happened there, and its sad whats happening to it now. Again, thanks for the pics and the memorys of it

I work at AM General. The American Axle strike only affected production of the H2 not the military Humvees. We currently produce 80 trucks per day all of the up-armored variety. I recently transfered to the Chippewa plant which is now used as our parts warehouse. I located this site while searching for some history about the Chippewa plant. If anybody has any info on that I would like to hear from you.

My grandfather, uncle and my father used to work at Studebaker. It brought back long forgotten memories. I would not be able to stand in the old press. I remember dad came home early on day. He would not tell us much as to why. I later found out someone he was working with was seriously injured (killed?). Most of these presses were 2 man operations. A lot of the other workers really liked working with dad. Many new press operators were put with him since he had an excellent safety record, pre-OSHA. I could tell it got to him when someone was injured. You can not believe how dangerous these machines could be.
