Patiently Waiting

Katy

LOVE IT! It's sooo peaceful! I like the colors from the outside trees...they add to the opposite colors of the blue tint of the room!

Morgue

Katy

Ya know...everyone always freaks out when they see a picture of a morgue and thinks it's creepy...but I'm thinking leaving people out and not refrigerating them when they die might be a lot creepier...

When I Die

Katy

Seriously people! Lighten up...it's a joke that Grandpa fell asleep peacefully at the wheel while everyone in the car was screaming...it's called sarcasm....or bete noir. Unless, of course you have personal experience with this sort of thing...then, my apologies...;-)

Cotton Balls

Katy

Children can be diagnosed with EBD (Emotionally Behaviorally Disturbed) as young as the age of 3 yrs. old....they often have RAD (Reactive Attachment Disorder), ODD (Oppositional Defiance Disorder), and OCD..etc... these children often self-mutilate...hitting themselves, biting themselves and others. Sometimes they need to be put into a, "basket-hold" to stop themselves from being hurt...my daughter was diagnosed with these problems when we adopted her at the age of three...if we hadn't taken her, she would have ended up in a facility much like this because foster care has a hard time placing these children....
As sad as we may think these places are for a child, at least licensed professionals are taking care of them and they are not being sent back to Russia to an orphanage... that started the RAD, ODD, etc... in the first place....these children are very hard to raise without medication and a ton of education and understanding of their disorders....thank goodness for the professionals that take care of them in these places!

Out of Service

Katy

I think they are dental chairs....why would they need that many barber chairs....and the sea-foam green on the chair matches the podium of the thing in the foreground...but I could be wrong, it's been known to happen.. ;-)

Conveyors

Katy

Motts, do you do research on the places you visit before you shoot them so you have an idea of how you want to shoot it? Or do you research after you have taken the shots...or a little of both? For this location, was it just shot organically, or did you have an idea ahead of time of parts if it that you were looking to shoot?

The depth of field really makes this shot with the shadow on the upper teeth....

Steel Sculpture

Katy

The oxidation of this is such a wonderful amber color! It looks like a sculpture put in the middle of a coke plant! The cobblestones add an excellent texture to this piece!

Katy

Great perspective for this industrial shot!

Quench Tower

Katy

As agree that the grey day fits the industrial theme of these shots, I would like to have seen them with a brighter background to to bring about the idea of man vs nature...some of my enjoyment of Motts work is seeing how nature can eventually overtake and erase the work of humankind. For instance, if you look at photos of Chernobyl today...it's amazing how nature has taken back the landscape and erased one of humankind's biggest disaster. Nature is extremely resilient...
