I'm thinking that since that window is up higher on the wall, they installed the stairs to be able to open/close the window with ease.

building 23..is the craziest building..to me i think this building is the most scariest to go in..and yes i did have a run-in with troopers..they stopped infront of the building..and just sat there for 5 min..me and my friends just stood still

When did they Open Ward A?
When I was there it was for Daycare. No one lived on that Ward.

Sitting at the girls end?
They used to sleep in front of the door, both night staff.
They must have changed that when me and another person on Ward D went down to the girls room. I relate that as well.

A long time ago.
I've been just about everywhere in that place.
Both times I was there Mr. Heathwood was in charge. Again, not sure of the correct spelling.
I related my time of near escape from Ward B once, and I even managed to get to the basement once.

The "clock" in the center should be for adjusting the output frequency of the alternators. Power line frequency isn't always at exactly 60 Hz at a particular instant, but it's adjusted to keep it at 60 Hz over long periods of time.

The square device below the frequency meter is most likely a paper chart recorder, to show the frequency of the alternators over a long time.

These were probably charged by those motor-generator sets in the last picture, "Bombs Away."

Yup, looks like exciter pickup brushes...the curved red bar on the left side that appears to be wrapped in something would probably be the field rheostat, for bringing the alternator up slowly.

Oh you guys think of all the negatives.

teve_paradise, weird, I live in North Dartmouth MA (right next door to westport, drive down the entire stretch of route 6 in westport almost daily but have never seen or heard of a haunted house along that way. Just did some research online and all I can find is rumors like "family burial ground, civil war burial, or indian cemetary"

I love the history of the north east, I've gone walking in what I thought was the middle of nowhere and stumbled upon gravesites. Amazing how they still stand, I wish there was an easy way to find all the history of this stuff.

I visited early today (as much as I could it's fairly busy around that area now. The building does look like its still in fairly good shape, the tower doesn't appear to actually be tilting in any direction, however no matter how you look at it, it does seem like its reaching out over you.

the very front of the building (the red brick), does look a little weak, you can actually see the cracks in the photo if you no where to look. Its slowly collapsing in on itself, but still looks far more stable than some of the homes in worcester. Man I wish I knew about this place just a few years before. All this time hanging out less than a mile away with nothing to do... could have had fun.
